How many multitools do you own...and why?

The 1st one I got was the original Leatherman: I was in the Army as a communications specialist and it saved the day many times. I became a civilian so I gave my Leatherman to my brother (a Marine) because I figured he needed it more than I did.

Later my wife bought me the Gerber Pro-Scout and I like it better than my old Leatherman. The only problem is that I now work in a hospital and wear scrubs and I don't really need a full-size multi-tool. The Gerber now stays in my car, and it still gets a fair amount of use.

Although I don't need a full-size multi-tool I still need a small multi-tool. I have owned alot of Swiss Army knives over the years but the larger ones are just alittle uncomfortable for pocket carry (too long). So I'm constantly looking for the perfect mini-multi-tool.
Currently I own:
Gerber Pro-Scout
Leatherman Micra
Schrade Tough Chip
Seber tool
Swisstech mini-pliars tool
Alot of SAKs

Good luck,
Allen.

Let's see, I have the original Leatherman Supertool, a Wave, a Crunch and a Victorinox Swisstool. The one I carry and use the most is the Crunch, because the locking pliers in a pinch can double as a wrench. I like the Swisstool a lot, too, though I find it to be a little heavy. The Wave is OK, but I have a hard time getting the tools out when working in muddy or wet conditions, plus it doesn't have an awl (which I find essential). I'll probably buy at least one (if not more) of the Juice models, too, in the ongoing quest for the perfect multitool. At the moment, though, the Crunch rules.

I like most started with the basic Leatherman... Then bought a Gerber when they first came out... pinched my hand one time @#$%* and into the junk drawer it went... Then bought a new "improved" Gerber... because I liked the locking blades and tools, they also somewhat fixed the pinch point... Carried that for a couple of years.
Then the Leatherman Wave entered my life... I loved the single handed blade access. I did lose the locking tools but you can't have everything (where would you put it)
In the end I added a Leatherman micra to my pocket and with the Wave on my belt, still feel this is the best combo..

Everyone Graduates from one "Best" to the next...

Very Good Reviews of very multi-tool out there.

Just two...
A SOG Paratool for work and my trusty keychain Micra. In the future I would like to add another. Maybe the Leatherman Wave or SOG Powerlock and retire the Paratool to the Car Kit.
Cheers,
Gord

Just one.

Unless you count the imitation I picked up for $5 and keep in my suitcase but never use. Also not counting SAKs. I needed a quality one for daily "concealed" office carry. No belt pouches. My LM Juice S2 fits pocket nicely. Always there. Minimal features, but everything I find useful.

Now, if a Wave or Swisstool fell out of the sky, I'd find a use for it (probably glove box), but I don't need another multi-tool enough to actually buy one.

Let's see...

Currently, I have a Supertool 200, a Cybertool 29, a Micra, a Gerber Multi-Lock, a Victorinox Executive, and a Gerber Multi-Lite.

Supertool 200 -- rides in my back pocket daily. Love it. Tend to only use the pliers though, so I may opt for something smaller for daily carry and let this one be my Hard Use multi-tool. It is thick, but comfortable in the hand and in the back pocket.

Cybertool 29 -- use all the time. Great bitdriver. About the only screwdrivers I use anymore. Use the bottle opener too, and the corkscrew, but the rest of the tools I use rarely.

Multi-Lock -- got in a trade. Like the Multi-Locks (this is not my first) Tools are a bit short, particularly the drivers and the scissors. Great pliers though.

Micra -- perfect complement to the Supertool 200

Vic Executive -- Very sheeple friendly and more useful than a Classic

Multi-Lite -- like a Gerber SAK. Nice interchangeable saw blade. Fair LED light. My wife got it for me, so it has sentimental value.

Have owned 2 Swisstools, a Pulse, 2 Waves, a PST2, 2 old Gerber Multipliers, and a large # of SAKs...

Opinions:

Swisstool: Handy tool, but not big on the tool finish. Damn screwdrivers keep sliding off things. Like the chisel though. Found that surprisingly handy.

Pulse: Scissors are 2 small but otherwise it is a great little tool.

Wave: I miss my Wave. May go back. Slit my thumb with it once. Thickness and the nonlocking screwdrivers are the only downside. Very sturdy tool, despite the way it feels. Good scissors.

Old Gerbers: Fair tools. Pinch a bit, though. Great for stashing in each glovebox, toolbox, briefcase, drawer at work, etc.

There again, YMMV. Just my little opinions... :D

Hmm..let´s see.

2 Leatherman wave (one for work and one for off duty)
1 Leatherman Pulse
1 Leatherman PST2
1 Victorinox Swisstool X

So far...

Which I prefer? I use them all, and choose tool from day to day depending on what I´m doing and where I´m going.
For favorite allround tool it´s a hard choice between swisstool and wave. Most of the time the wave wins due to it`s better drivers.
The drivers on the swisstool is a bit too rounded, I´ve fixed it on the slotted ones with a diamondfile(wave), but the philips-head is harder to fix.

Wave +
* Better drivers
* Better file
* Needlenose pliers is more allround
* Easier accessed blades, both plain and serrated

Wave -
* The handles flex a bit when closed, no practical problem but makes it feel a bit "wimsy"
* The tools in the handle dont´t lock, can cost you "skin-loss" if you don´t keep that in mind

Swisstool +
* Better scissors
* More sturdy and robust plier
* chissel and awl
* Easy access to all tools

Swisstool -
* Drivers is to rounded and polished making it slip easier
* It takes strong and quite long nails to get the knifeblade out

Have I forgotten anything? Probably.

I own two but only use one
I have a gerber in the car but it's just for emergencies.

At work I carry a Leatherman Juice S2 in a small sheath. the Army bought me a huge toolbox full of tools and they'll give me more if I need them so If I come across a job that requires more than the Juice I always have the right tool. the Juice is just big enough for those jobs that just aren't worth getting out the toolbox.

Guess I'll live up to my handle on this one. Let's see...

Leatherman Micra - in my pocket and computer bag
Leatherman Pulse w/toolkit - in a day pack
Leatherman Supertool and Supertool 200 - Carried on trips
Leatherman Crunch - Christmas present now in drawer
Leatherman Juice Glacier or S2 - EDC
Gerber Compact Sport w/toolkit - In computer bag
Swisstool Plus - had to try it but a little heavy for EDC changes with Supertool on trips
SOG Powerlock - In my truck. I really like the compound leverage on the pliers.
Various SAK's - Victorinox and Wenger

Of all of the tools I use the Micra and Juice tools the most. Of the medium and full sized tools I like the Pulse the best. I don't carry the Pulse at work because the blade is greater than 2.5".:(

Waiting for the bladeless Leatherman tools I always carry a knife anyway.

I love these neat gadgets. The Wave is one of my favorites, but lately the Pulse is getting alot of carry time. All the blades lock and they "rolled" the inside edges of the handles to make it very comfortable to grip. It's also just a wee bit larger than the PST.

1. Leatherman - Standard
2. Leatherman - Micra
3. Leatherman - Supertool

I use all for different purposes but find that I get most use out of the Supertool. The Supertool is really sturdy and both the knives are just so sharp I really have to be careful closing them without getting cut. I really want a Wave next. Maybe next Xmas!! -Rick

I have an old Gerber Multi-plier that stays in the truck and a Leatherman supertool that I use in the house. I just picked-up a M4 Sebertool for the key ring, which I have found to be very handy for small jobs.

Zero. I've got plenty of tools and I can't see spending the money on something I would hardly use. I do that enough already on other things.

Lets see,

Leatherman Wave

Buck Knives BuckTool

SOG CrossCut

I'd like to try one of those new Visegrip Toolbox multitools to keep in the car as well, but haven't found one yet.

Lowe's and Home Depot have them here. I don't have one but the curve of the handle seems like it would make it hard to use the tools.

I must have missed seeing them in the Home Depot.

You're probably right about using the tools, I really should get a regular vice grip tool and a couple of screwdrivers for the car. I guess all the multitools are a compromise of some sort.

My first multitool was one of those cheep black plastic handled $7 deluxe supreme deals:rolleyes:. My next one was a black Gerber multiplier because I new someone who had one and I couldn't be w/out one as well, good reason huh? This piece saw a great deal of use. After a couple of years I gave the cheaper one away to a friend and the Gerber to my brother and purchased the Leatherman Wave right when it came out...in Eastern Mountain Sports three days before their 20% off sale:(. If someone thinks their Supertool is better challenge them to a race to see who can open and close both blades the fastest...hehe anyway they'll be embarrassed :P. Oh, and the Sebertech M2 and LM Micra make great keychain tagalongs. Peace :)

For some reason, I've never been much of a gadget guy. Had one of those "Camp King" cheapie Boy Scout-type pocket knives as a kid, and was not impressed. Was never even tempted to own a SAK or any multi-tool until I saw the Leatherman Wave. Begged, in a manly fashion, ;) and received one last Fathers' Day. I wish it had an awl, and more properly shaped slotted screwdriver tips. Otherwise, I'm very, very pleased with it, and carry it almost everyday. It comes in extremely handy while fishing, but is useful for me everywhere. I haven't seen another multi-tool I'd rather have for my purposes, but one of those Micra thingies might be nice to have ....
