How many nuances of red have GEC used?

Does anyone here know how many different nuances of red GEC have colored bone with, and how different are they?

I have one with rust red bone, but I have seen there's one called indian paint brush.

I have a #23 (large trapper) in "ruby red" jigged bone. It is very...bright. It's buried in a box in the garage, and about as heavy as a Buck 110, but I'll see if I love it.

Blood Red is a favorite of mine. I have this one and a Toothpick.

Does anyone know where they source their dyed bone? I seem to remember that some years back (10 or more) there was not a domestic supplier of dyed, jigged bone covers and they were mostly sourced from Boker in Germany.

They do all the bone work in house, jigging and dying included.

Early on (2006/07) they bought the biggest part of it from Culpepper; thus all the bonestag types we no longer see. Now, they buy the whole bone and do the work themselves; I think they call it the "Boneworks" part of the factory.

Too cool! It gives them much better control of the dye tones I imagine. That was a major problem with ordering bone from suppliers some years ago, getting good color matches left and right, receiving covers that had hard to detect cracks, consistancy of color between dye lots. They do produce some very handsome bone and with using so much, it makes sense to do it inhouse.

Oh... I know some of you fans of GEC have factory shots saved. Any of the "Boneworks" processes? Some lovely reds being shown. On with the show!

The knife on left is a GEC made schrade...The right one is called red barnboard bone and was an eyesore until i gave it the black dye treatment..It is now a deep plum colour and i like it a lot...Both are from 2007? and are #73 pattern.....FES

Mike is right, of course, they have used MANY different reds. Here are a couple of mine.

GEC's "Boneworks" is the Fight Club of their production processes. ;)

(Of all that GEC so generously shows and pictures and explains, their bone processing processes currently remain Secret-- for their eyes only.)

No fairs. I watched their factory tour vids. No bone jigs or dye vats. Fowl I say, fowl! :p

The bone on this #25 pre-dates GEC's in-house processing. I call it, "Old Red":

Mallard!
GEC also owns acrylic stabilizing equipment, they admit to using it only on Primitive bone, and Charlies Walnut.

looks about as Orange as the Rust red Charlow
Spanish for Red is Colorado, which simply means colored, and includes both Orange and Red... to me Orange is not Red, at least not in English.. :-)
