How many of the Combat Extraction Unit 17 (EU17) knives are out there?

According to J. Busse the exact total number is unknown (strange but true). With only about 30 of each variant in existence I would not let this knife go for less than $1000 (IF I was going to sell it, which I will not). It just does not get much rarer for a Busse knife than this (for a non custom shop factory run). This is a 'sleeper' highly collectable knife if there ever has been one.

Well, you are certainly entitled to ask whatever you like for it.....but at 1000, that knife would stay in your collection.......forever. And there are MANY more rare knives than those that are not custom. No more collectible than any other Busse out there

Whether you decide to keep it forever or eventually let it go, it is a sweet blade that I am sure you will enjoy.

The Busse market is funny. Some knives made in low numbers have a high resale, others do not. An example would be the Desert Outlaws (14 made) and the Recurve desert Outlaws (7). These linger on the market at $500, IIRC. The Ruck Kensai, made in higher numbers (??) pulls something like $800 now. My theory is that there are a lot of newer Busse fans, and they didn't come up in the era of scarcity, when these older blades were originally released, and because they don't read about them or see pics, these older knives don't register for them in the same way as newer ones do.

The Busse market is funny....

Your post makes sense. I also collect mint Colt's from the 70's. Some go up more in value than others...for whatever reason. Baffling to me is that the Pythons just keep going up even though they are already way up there. Compared to just a couple years ago the market for vintage Colts got very tight.
