The title says it all! How many of you have purchased the USMC Survival Kit?

How many of you are (seriously) going to do it within the next 2 weeks?

About to finish some school so once finances calm down, SERIOUSLY! Wish I had been issued one, that would be awesome.

Spencer,

Dude, sell something.

were is a good place to buy it from?

Hey! How did you miss that? Actually, it was Spencer's snooping - Cheaper Than Dirt.

First person to secure one for Spencer from Cheaper Than Dirt gets my 1959 Waltham Lensatic Compass.

Already sold my Kimber TLE/RL to free up funds, trying to hold onto as many guns as I can, but there is an AR I keep thinking about throwing out there. No rush, I just hope they don't disappear, LOL count on me doin some bartering if they do. I know some asshole is gonna buy a few.

LOL hey you is what you is, there are a couple people in my class that call me an asshole and it just makes me proud, considering what type of people they are. Well I know who's as to kiss if they sell out. Thanks for the offering Don, but I have never felt right getting anything for free, now if I have or can help you get something you need want that's a different story.

You could trade me something later on or whatever. However, I wouldn't be giving someone the compass so you could get the kit for free. If it were not for you, I would not have known that CTD lowered the price on them. Therefore I would not have had the opportunity to get another one.

Yeah I can see your point but anyone can spend 2 minute in google shopping, thanks again man, I really appreciate it. I mean I have my own kit I have setup so it's just another one so no rush, probably in a few weeks. It's gestures and people like this that keep me coming on here.

was just about to post up a great website that had a description of the kit then looked at the address and realised it was Don's site.

I've the Fishing kit nicely put together set - had to swap a few bit out as they were rusted in place but it had been in storage for a long time before I used it.

Went with a Penrith kit as my started kit but upgraded a number of items which all fit nice and neat in a specops shoulder wallet

I got 2, Mostly for the knife but the rest of the kit has good gear in it. The needles were rusty in mine. only opened 1 of the kits.

Probably going to pick one up if for nothing more than the saw and the bladder. I'm in the process of building my own personal "super kit" which is a combination of the Ritter, Penrith, RAT, this one and a couple of my own additions.

You might get a really nice surprise. In the first kit I bought years ago, it had a Brunton compass in it. The one I got from Cheaper Than Dirt had a Pre-1992, Made in Sweden, Silva M3 Compass in it. :D

Well I hadn't heard about it.... but I looked it up and found this really great page all about it.. :) Reading it now.

I picked one up a few years ago. While I don't plan on using the kit as is in the near future, I regularly carry individual pieces of the kit which are scattered through my other gear right now. The compass was a Silva baseplate compass (not sure which model). Right now that one is in my EDC bag at work. The whistle is in another kit. I frequently carry the Camillus knife, though I usually carry a Swiss Army Rucksack at work. Also, since retiring from the military, the green space blanket has been replaced by an orange one from Adventure medical kits (I'm more interested in being found now).

One of the first things I do with those military fishing kits is to open them up and check the needles. I also take them off of the cloth that they are stuck on. I have the same theory has Don, that the cloth holds enough moisture to rust the needles. The only other place I've seen rust on the military fishing kits is on one of the metal containers itself.

All in all a good kit, and I'm tempted to get another.

The AMK Heat Sheet is a lot thicker and more durable than the tissue-like aluminized mylar blanky that came with it. They're good in a pinch and they were the bomb even in the early 90s as far as how far you could compress them down and they weighed nothing...but the AMK stuff really is one hundred times better in my opinion. I don't throw the old type out, I distribute them as well because, well, they don't weigh anything! You can use them for insulation, etc.

I just bought one of those Heatsheats. It's awesome! I'm thinking of getting another for an emergency shelter.

Hey Don,

I checked out your write up on the kit... well tried to. had huge issues trying to read it with the USMC logo background. (My eyes aint all the good anymore). But I am going to grab one from Cheaperthendirt to add to my BOB.

Check your E-mail and make sure it didn't go in your spam filter. I don't know if the pictures will be in the mail or not but you should have all of the text. :)
