How many of you

rockspyder: that's what they do to keep the sushi from sticking their blades.
I do use my EDC occasionally as a utencils, that's usually when they give me those safety steak knives and thinking they're actually knives. I don't like white lightning too much so I haven't been applying them to my newer blades. Plates have this amazing ability to blunt my blades and I avoid using any CPM440V blades for such purpose because I fear the fix up would be very hard.

There was a thread that mentioned Flitz was safe to use around food stuff. After all, some use it to polish table silverware. Since I use various knives to portion out all types of food, I use Flitz on most of my knives (the exceptions being bead blasted blades). Flitz does smell raunchy out of the bottle/tube but the odor does go away after awhile.

To avoid prematurely dulling my blade when cutting steak, I first cut the steak in two and then stack one piece over the other and eat the top piece first. If you overcut the top portion of meat the blade will cut into the lower piece and avoid the ceramic plate. Another tactic is to lay the steak on some other soft item on the plate (e.g., veggies, starch, etc.) and then slice away. This also works when cutting stuff on paper plates at a picnic. If your knife is sharp you won't have to bear down too hard and if you use a serrated blade it will tend to remain sharp longer than a PE after repeated passes on the ceramic plate.

And then, there's the Bozo procedure: Eat everything clean off your plate, flip the plate over, and resharpen your blade on the rough circular foot of the ceramic plate. (If you're arrested for trying this, I will disavow any knowledge of the instruction). ;)

How do you guys get that off?
BreakFree CLP and if that doesn't work, WD-40. It has never happened but I would use "3M Gum and Tar Remover" if the WD-40 failed.

If I went to a restaurant and I couldn't hack up the food with the instruments they provided, well, I wouldn't be inclined to take out my own and keep trying :D. Sheesh.

Something that works for me removing gummy residue is a pencil eraser.

And no, cant say i have ever whipped out a knife at a restaurant to eat with. You guys are weird! :)
