How many people on here use that paper wheels?

send me a pm jimmy and i'll give you a call before you start using the wheels. realitycheck, your setup should work just fine that way. how tall is your bench? i like having the top of the wheels about sternum high or there abouts. with the way i sharpen it makes holding the blade at the right angle easier. if you want to get yours a little higher just mount the motor to a 2x just a tad wider than the base and clamp it in place. that way if you go anywhere and want to take the wheels its somewhat portable.

Well I got my wheels and I the 6" buffer from harbor freight. So excited about them right now. I immediately unbolted the motor from the base and turned it around so the wheels spin away from me.

I didn't bother to turn the motor, but instead turned the entire grinder around. Like Richard, I like to be able to work on the top of the wheels. Having the wheels turning away at the top made it easier for me.

Richard my bench is about sternum high which puts the wheels around my collarbone probably. I didnt pay real close attention to it. I think i'll have to work from the side now that i'm going to make the wheels rotate towards me. I dont want one in the face.

SPX I'm confused. Richard has the wheels turning towards him. Do you use them turning away from you?

i think thats the way he uses them. its easier to see the previous angle on the blade with the wheels rotating to you and the edge facing you. if you wear a face shield you can sharpen the way i do. i wear glasses all the time and what few sparks that come from carbon steel knives doesnt bother me.
