Just wondering, how many people wear gloves when practising survival techniques, trekking, knife chores etc, I posted on the other site about knife usage when wearing gloves, what sort of glove do you wear and where did you purchase? Would you class your pair of gloves as part of your survival kit and would you make sure they were with you when leaving on a trip into the great unknown or are they just a comfort item.

I do. The hands are IMO too important to risk. I just wear some relatively cheap leather work gloves usually (Wal-Mart).

I have a pair of super thin, supple leather gloves that are used for handling rope. They wear like a second skin. I used to wear them under my oversize mittens back in PA while waiting for the geese to show up. I found them very easy to shoot with (much easier than mittens).

Now that I live in Brazil I keep them in my survival pack. The bush here is incredibly throny at times. Gloves are a good thing. Mac

being cold natured (but I love the winter) I always keep a pair in my day pack and also in my glove compartment of my truck.

I have a pair of HATCH (kevlar) gloves in my back pocket at work. I have used them on many occasions, to jump and climb fences to change a tire to grab a hot dragging muffler, to pick up broken glass... My hands wouldn't "survive" without them.

Some may feel they are expensive but I have worn mine for 3 years now. I can't imagine the stitches I could have gotten or the things I wouldn't attempt.

I'd like to second the Hatch gloves. I have the Friskmaster Max and they are very slash resistant without being excessively bulky.

I wear normal canvas lined leather gloves when I'm outside. Not in the summer, but in all other times there's ice everywhere, and if I don't have any gloves on when I eventually slip, I'll remember the fall for a few days for certain :o

Wool mitts are nice, but not sturdy enough. Besides, any water or snow on them and soon they're about as comfortable as a mitten made of ice.

Also there's the nice bonus that having gloves of some sort keeps my hands from freezing. We get temperatures as far down as -50C in the winter, -25 is normal.

I use black leather british army gloves ( known as Northen Ireland gloves ) I picked them up at a military fare for £5.00. They fit well and can be waterproofed.

I keep a pair of el-cheapo leather gloves in the bag on the ATV, a pair in ths storage shed, and a pain in my day pack. I,ve got 53 years of scars and sutures, and working in health care, I can't afford too many half healed wounds.
