How many per year?

I was wondering what the general concensus was here to what is a reasonable number of knife purchases in a year. I have about 6 on my current to purchase list but it may grow as the new models come out. Last year I purchased about 8 but if I was a practical type , I could easily skip this year and still be in knives for another decade or two :D. On the practicality side I know if I buy more that will just be more knives sitting in a drawer but I really have trouble saying no. Just wondering how many also set a purchase price limit for a year, I'm thinking somewhere around $400 for this year.

I have a lot on my to-buy list, but I'm going to try and limit myself to one per month, starting with the least expensive and moving up. That'll be 12 this year.

1 per month is a fair notion but I have been much worse many, many times . . .

Need, at least by the end of 2009, and izula, militay and a bk7. I'd also want a FK pilot, and a police by spyderco.

EDIT: Ooooh, maybe...1, 2 a month? I'm on unemployed 14 year old salary. I make a good....500-1k a year plus benefits.

When it comes to knives I'm the last person to ask what constitutes 'reasonable' :D

Some years has been 50 or more, some years only two or three. An average of one per month sounds reasonable.

Reasonable is based on many factors, including your income, budget, household debt, other "hobbies" like golf or fishing, spousal support, etc. Just my opinion. I don't fish and don't golf, and basically don't "waste" money on much of anything except knives, flashlights and the occasional gun. So its all good. One bass boat or golf trip will pay for a lifetime of knives and other toys.

I don't count how many knives per year I get. I don't have any other expensive hobbies, except knives flashlights & the very occasional gun.

I make wish Lists, so when I make an Order I'll buy 5 to 7 Knives at a clip, this saves on shipping.

Well it's the 13th of January and I'm at 3 new knives already. Fuzy math would be 365/13x3=84.2 knives this year:eek:.... I need a 4th job...:D

I like that idea, it'll make big purchases seem more sensible to my wife:foot:

What I like about making lists it gives me time to think about if I really need/what that knife and then I group the knives to the supplier/store where I can get them and at the best price.
I have saved a lot of money this way, unlike the old days when I would buy a knife on impulse.

What can I say, I have a Wife that has an eye on a Desert Camo Glock in 40.:)

I just buy everything I see. That way I have a backup and don't miss out on anything. :D

Numbers per year/month. No clue. '08 was in the mid 100's maybe??

I try to limit myself to a hundred a year, but sometimes I fall off the wagon. :D

No wife, no kids, no debt, why not?

I help the wife pay for her new sports car and pay her insurance. I pump cash to the two seventeen year old boys. Why should'nt I be able to buy and sell 40 or 50 knives a year.:D

Before college I'd buy like a couple hundred bucks worth of knives a year. In college, I buy maybe one a year, but get a few for xmas and birthday. On my short list: Becker BK7, Rat RC-6, Surefire E2L flashlight (lost my old one), Izula, BM Rant DPT, and maybe an RC-3.
