How many per year?

Christmas and birthdays. That's it. These days financial responsibility is less common than it should be, and besides, even if you can afford every knife you want, how many do you REALLY need? Enjoy yourself, but like all things, moderation is the key and can make things even more enjoyable.

Do you really want to end up with a hundred knives that are all shoved in a drawer somewhere, never used and forgotten? I'd rather have a manageable number that are all used.

Get what you want, but be selective. Your savings will appreciate it, or you can give your savings to charity.

I get paid once a month and usually pick up a knife then. So I guess that would make it one a month. There was a time when......................., but that is no more as I've gotten more into buying quality instead of quanity. I'm also working on those spur of the moment buys, as I sometimes end up with a knife that I later regret buying. Price wise, I spend in the neighborhood of $200 to $300 a month. A good month might see it go up to $500 to $600, but we would be talking custom at that stage, or a high end Sebenza.:)

It depends. I have a SE Tasman Salt, a Buck 112, and a Tactical (;))Pink Izula on my shortlist, with maybe a sodbuster or canoe pattern to add. I've got to see if the wife and I will have jobs in the next few months first, before I go ahead and splurge on anything, though heh.

I try to say no, but I believe I really have a sickness. In 2008 I bought well over 100 knives. Hi. My name is Tony and I'm a knife-o-holic.....

be glad it isn't whetstones. there's a CURE for knife collecting, start broke.

whetstones will accomplish that task darn skippy. ask me how i know..

last year, at least the ones i don't have a mental block about.. were three japanese rocks, for about $700, *BEFORE* the price went up with the exchange rate..

two DMT 8000 grit XXXfine ..

a dozen 'finger' translucent arkansas burnishing stones, 3x3/8x1/8 ..

one 2x6x1 lily white

one small double grit belgian

one LARGE double grit belgian (the pair about 500$)

an 8x2x1 & an 11x2x1 15000 grit polishing stone (china)

a german waterstone, about 1500 grit, 2x6x 3/4

a handful of round & square soft arkansas 5/16/-3/8x 3 gunsmithing & tool sharpening stones

a 3 x 1.5 x 3/8-1/8 translucent arkansas slipstone

a 2nd 6x1.5x1/2 black hard arkansas..

and I probably could have gotten by without em, I wasn't starting from scratch. :)

If I get where I can afford a knife addiction, it'll be as big a step as givin' up on hot rod lincolns..

there's this masamoto garasuki that's had me throbbin' and drooling for 3 months.. $175.. and it's WORTH it, darnit.. talk about your tactical kitchen knife.. 7.25 inch blade, 4mm, 61-62 RC virgin carbon steel, chisel grind, ebony handle.. = LUST..

but there's this karasu that's 580$ and I gotta save up..

College has definitely quenched my ability to purchase knives...but it hasn't quenched my passion for more. I have a pretty extensive wish list, with an Al Mar Payara on top.

However, I am recently engaged so money also goes else where...

This year will be one every 2 months. Last year was around 12 the first half of the year, but when the economy went down, so did my purchasing. Around 13 total last year, after 12 during one half :(

About one per month, as I'm writing this my wife is saying TOO MUCH...I think I need another knife to get through this one!!!

I don't really plan on buying any knives this year. Maybe 1 or 2. Last year I got 3. Year before that, I got 2. That's it... I don't see why I would want so many knives. You can only use one knife per hand, and we only have 2 hands. I do understand there are collectors out there, but why would anybody want to get a duplicate of a knife that is the exact same?? Why get a back up knife? If you are breaking your knives you are using, then you are either abusing them, or it is a cheap knife. I don't know why you'd want another one if the thing breaks because it's cheap. And if you're losing your knives then you are being careless.

About ten per year for me. This year I'm being very picky, limiting to traditionals from Solingen or Case knives.

I make wish Lists, so when I make an Order I'll buy 5 to 7 Knives at a clip, this saves on shipping.

Yeah, I keep wish lists too, then for some knives on the list, my interest will fizzle out over the course of a few months, and I'll end up with what I really want. Then I buy that.

Guess that averages about one every 2 months or so for myself, one a month if you include ones I buy as gifts.
