how many pm2s is too many?

One was enough for me.
Got rid of it as quickly as possible.
Fine knives to be sure, just not for me.

I do have multiples of other knives though so I get it.

Well, for a time, 2. I've had the same PM2 since April 2014. CPM-S30V, RGT burlap micarta scales, black screws, black MXG deep carry clip. Normally, I do not buy duplicates. If I lose a knife, its an excuse to try something new. However. HOWEVER. I have been considering breaking my no duplicates rule for the Cutlery Shoppe PM2 wharncliffe. I love the blade shape, its different enough from the regular PM2, and its my favorite steel, CTS-XHP.
The orange G10... 🤤

I'd also say 2 as I have Cru-wear and S110V variants.

Honestly if you think one is not enough, then there will never be too many. At one point I had like eight and I still wanted to get more. I gradually lost my interest and now I keep only one (a regular production DLC s30v) and feel that it is more than enough.

S30V Wharnie, Crucarta, Blurple Titanium S45VN, Cruwear Maple, REX 45 milled copper, BD1N milled aluminum, Maxamet, and an S30V.

Who else thinks an XHP beats out S30V, in a Wharnie? WTF am I supposed to do when the Military 2 comes out?! Just make peace with being broke?

How many is too many? I'm not sure there is such a thing. How big is your closet? How big is your house? Are there any storage rental places nearby? Have you considered buying a bigger house?
If your kids go hungry because you are buying more knives, maybe that is too many.

Thought about a poll but convos around here have been interesting lately. So I had a crucarta, picked up a rex 45 on here, and ordered a maxamet after I noticed they sold out on bladehq. I like knifing with and sharpening different types of steels. It doesn't have to be a new super steel, but something I haven't used.

I guess I'm okay with the 3. Besides for the obvious being steel, the crucarta has oversized liners, the rex 45 is copper with no liners, and the maxamet is g10 with normal liners. I think I haven't got the maxamet here yet but I'm hoping it is cause I ordered a lotus scale with it. I think they might all become users. Mostly because it'll be fun to see how the same blade in different steels compare. If I start carrying the crucarta n copper jobbies around I don't see any reason I'd get rid of them. The blades will patina, the handles will too in a way.. The maxamet I could part with if at some point something better comes. From the charts I'm not impressed with magnacut too much, so I doubt it'd be soon.

Does this make since? Not the magnacut thing. If you're a fan chill I might try to replace my gaurdian 3 with a 3.5 in it, so it'll probably be given a chance too. More just how in the last six months or so I went from 0 pm2s to 3. I find it both cool and dumb at the same time. But with the rex n maxamet there are other spydercos, but not much else for options that's made domestically and available.
Just 1 more…

Actually, I would like a wharnie........maybe I'll change my answer to one more!

One is enough, I have had a PM2 in CPM-D2 as my main EDC for well over 10 years, its been used and abused daily and I still cant fault it today. It's battle scarred and beaten up but been a loyal servant from day 1. Some don't seem to like the blade to handle ratio, but for me, the blade length is perfect and having large hands, the handle is bang on.
I don't view the PM2 as a safe queen or fashion statement, its just a flat out user that never ages or gets superseded.
Maybe I need a back up even though I cant see mine ever needing replacement, but just in case it is misplaced or one of my boys take a shine to it.
All time classic and a stroke of Sal Glasser genius.

1 is enough. I have a crucarta. it's the nicest knife I own that I love to hate. It's smooth well made and has no real faults other than I hate it every time I use it. Now my shaman I love....

I have three, one in regular S30v, one in S110v (Blurple version) and the tanto version. I have one more in me, a serrated PM2 and then I’m done.

Out of all the knives I own, I find the PM2 carried on the belt (with a very nominal narrow leather sheath that I found on Etsy years ago) carries the best for me.

Thread drift: I’ve been trying to find a similar sheath for my other Spyderco’s and have utterly failed. Most are big hunks of leather that are bulky. This one is just so superb. Anyone on here a leather maker that I could send a picture of this sheath to take a look and see if this style can be recreated?
Paging Gary Graley. Hey Gary, want to send you an email about a knife sheath but can’t seem to do it through this forum. Do you have an email address? Thanks

One of every variant and sprint run plus 2-3 of a couple favorite variants for using. Anything more than that is knife gluttony.

I have a few all all of them see use. A few years ago I picked up a plan jane S30V version and it never really saw much carry time because I was obsessed with my Sebenza at the time so I gifted it to my son-in-law. Fast forward to last year and I picked up a PM2 Maxamet just to test out the steel. After a few weeks I was addicted to the knife. It did take some time to appreciate the PM2 but now I have the Maxamet, Cruwear micarta, S30V Wharnie, and a CPM 90V versions. Not sure I'll buy more at this point since I have plenty at this point :) I'm thinking my next move will be for a Military 2 once there are plenty on the market.

My thoughts exactly!

What is this "Too many PM2s" concept? Get as many as you like (that you can afford). I think I have 5, all in different steels. Rex 45, Maxamet, S110V, CruWear, K390. May add 15V if I can get hold of one in the sprint run fury.

I have 5
I like the design and like trying different steels in this model.

Too many? I would be fine with one in practice.
