How many times have you been cut by your knives?

I was wondering how often some of you pro knife people cut yourselves. I've cut myself three times to date (and I only really started collecting knives a few months ago).

The first knife I owned, I had to convince my mom to let me get it and I said "Oh, it's for whittling" but it was really just because I wanted a knife and thought they were cool. So, I got some crappy $10 knife online and when it arrived, I tried to whittle and while cutting towards myself, it slipped off the wood into the area between my thumb and forefinger and I had to get stitches. This was a couple years ago.

More recently, I was sharpening a kitchen knife for my mom and I only got halfway done and I had to go do something else, so I ran my fingers along the blade to clean off the metal shavings and a burr or something slit my thumb open. It was deep and it took forever to get it to stop bleeding.

Then, with my Cold Steel Spartan, I was opening it and my finger slipped and it closed back down on the very end of my pinky. I got so lucky. I didn't even feel it, that's how shallow it was. It did bleed a little though, and I had to put a bandage on it.

When I got my first Spyderco Delica a few days ago, I flipped it open, and I pushed the lockback in to close it and the blade swung down really quickly and almost cut me. I had been used to my super tough CS Spartan lockback. On the Spartan, it's really hard to push it in and then it only swings like an inch or two down. The Delica tried to swing all the way down, which I wasn't at all used to.

Anyway, those are my stories. I'd like to hear yours if you have any :)

How often? Dude, I got 4 nicks on my hands right now. As soon as putting razor edges on everything, becomes a stress relief, you will cut yourself countless times. You will reduce cuts and nicks, if you test sharpness with paper or shaving hair and fingernails. Remove stuff from the edge, with a leatherstrop(will make your knife even sharper).

Greetings

got two nicks right now but pro knife people that is not me seeing i wasnt paying attention thought i was opening the scissors on my sak and no it was the blade hello blood lol

Just in my left pointer finger I count 8 scars, left ring finger theres a scar that 10 stitches left, 5 on my right pointer finger. I don't know how many times i slit open the pad of my thumb being stupid and cutting towards me with a hair whittling edge. You play with knives you will get cut :P nuff said haha.

More often than I care to admit, usually doing something stupid. Once seriously enough to need stitches.

Every knife I own has gotten me at least once, in one form or another. Either a prick, a nick or a stick, in the end they all leave their marks. ;)

ive cut every one of my fingers at least once, most recently at work i was cutting some stuff that got caught up in the machine at work we use to count out pills (i work in a pharmacy) the knife slipped and cut up my thumb.. it wasnt too bad though. the culprit was a kershaw leek.

I have been nicked by my own knife.I don't know where you draw the line between a nick and a cut, but I hopefully have I learned some lessons from my mishaps.I am always missing hair on some body part (usually arms) from sharpening..

Too many to count.
I've gotten myself badly a few times.
Once with a balisong that I caught by the blade and it close on my hand, got a deep gash and can still feel tenderness from time to time. I should have went to the doctor and got stitches.

Another by an old Carbon Steel Lock Back. Didn't go to the doctor right away but when I did they glued it shut and wrapped it up.

I have a few stories lol.

I think balisongs are so cool and you can do so many good tricks, but I'm afraid that I'll cut myself so much with them....I keep meaning to buy a practice balisong.

Man I just cut a good 1/4" circle of the pad of my index finger..................sigh:(

Between my knives, box cutters, kitchen knives, woodworking tools, razors, rusty implements... I've had more nicks and cuts than I can count. Plus I scar really easily, so my hands are just completely criss-crossed with little scars here and there.

Nothing major yet, though. *knock on wood*.

I cut myself at least once a week.
However, I've only had stitches a half-dozen times because I've gotten good at closing and treating deep wounds over the past few decades.
My fingers and hands do have quite a few scars but don't look hideous.
And yes...balisong practice will shred your hands.

Lol! I just filletted my finger tree topping a strand of hair! Stropman compounds did the trick. This blackjack 155 is super sharp now. I barely felt the slice!

Who hasn't? And when I do, its rarely when I am using the knife for its intended purpose, I'm usually just flicking it around when I slip up...

Or, how often do you dull your knife blade with your body parts?

Not very often. Never required stitches from a knife cut. Though I did give myself quite a bleeder with pair of garden shears once....
