I was wondering how often some of you pro knife people cut yourselves. I've cut myself three times to date (and I only really started collecting knives a few months ago).
The first knife I owned, I had to convince my mom to let me get it and I said "Oh, it's for whittling" but it was really just because I wanted a knife and thought they were cool. So, I got some crappy $10 knife online and when it arrived, I tried to whittle and while cutting towards myself, it slipped off the wood into the area between my thumb and forefinger and I had to get stitches. This was a couple years ago.
More recently, I was sharpening a kitchen knife for my mom and I only got halfway done and I had to go do something else, so I ran my fingers along the blade to clean off the metal shavings and a burr or something slit my thumb open. It was deep and it took forever to get it to stop bleeding.
Then, with my Cold Steel Spartan, I was opening it and my finger slipped and it closed back down on the very end of my pinky. I got so lucky. I didn't even feel it, that's how shallow it was. It did bleed a little though, and I had to put a bandage on it.
When I got my first Spyderco Delica a few days ago, I flipped it open, and I pushed the lockback in to close it and the blade swung down really quickly and almost cut me. I had been used to my super tough CS Spartan lockback. On the Spartan, it's really hard to push it in and then it only swings like an inch or two down. The Delica tried to swing all the way down, which I wasn't at all used to.
Anyway, those are my stories. I'd like to hear yours if you have any
