How Many Times Have You Cut Your Fingers So Far?

IT ONLY HURTS WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT. I POSTED A SIMMULAR POST AND IT SEEMED THAT NOBODY COPPED TO BEING CUT WITH THEIR OWN KNIVES. I'M A BUTCHER BY TRADE AND LATELY I CUT BOTH OF MY THUMBS WITH AN UNFAMILER FOLDER TWO WEEKS APART, ONCE WHILE SHOPPING FOR A NEW TACTILE FOLDER NOT BEING FAMILIAR WITH A LINER LOCK I LEFT THE TIP OF MY THUMB IN THE LOCK RELEASE NOTCH AND CLOSED IT ON THE TIP OF THE THUMB IN TOOK TWO STICHES TO CLOSE. THE OTHER CUT CAME WHEN I WAS FICKING THE BLADE OPEN IN THE CAR, THE BLADE HIT THE STICK SHIFT LEVER AND BOUNCED BACK ON MY THUMB PAD. ONE INCH CUT NO STICHES THIS TIME. I'M ALOT CAREFUL NOW WITH THESE SMALL KNIVES...

Featherstone,
How much of that poor thumb is left?

OK, I admit it, my Chive bit me the first time I used it. I was cutting open that stupid bubble wrapping on one of my son's birthday presents last month. I dumbly (hear me kicking myself?) held it like a paring knife, and of course the blade slipped in the plastic and put a very impressive 3/4" slash in the pad of my thumb. YEEEEOUCH! It goes without saying that I will never do this again (kick, kick, kick!)

I have cut myself twice this year, once with a BK&T Magnum Camp and once with a BK&T machete. In both cases, I was holding the knives with the blade pointed up, and with a loose grip. The slick, rounded, forward curving guard simply rolled over my hand and I came in contact with the blade.

For this reason I have become a big fan of long, straight guards. I have also rigged improvised guards on both of my BK&T knives.

Not any very bad this year. But, I have had countless bleeders this year. To many to remember.

Forgot to mention that I had 3 good ones this year. The best was when cleaning my CRKT Navajo without paying attention my finger ran over the edge with some good pressure and a lot of the blade disappeared into my finger. Bled for about 5 days. My wife's an orthopaedic nurse and still refers to me as "idiot".

Once from the linerlock failure of a CRKT Apache2. Just a bit shy of needing stitches. I've given up linerlocks.:(

0!

I have not cut myself since I was little. I use a knife every day and NEVER cut myself. I honestly wonder how careless you guys are. Didn't your mommy teach you not to play with knives:p

I manipulate Balisongs on a daily basis, I've gotten more cuts than I can count but I've got a good stock of Band-aids, neosporin, zip-ties, and superglue. I WILL stop the bleeding quickly.

Guys, threat em like you would a firearm. Cut when you only have a target and a safe background.

All these wounds are getting to me. As users / collectors we do not have an excuse (except for you Bali folks). Now makers, that is another story. (Sometimes they have to stick knives into fast moving machines :).

I just hope none of us shoot ourselves as often as we cut ourselves.

I am kidding around a little here, but there is a grain of truth in treating a knife with the same respect a trained shooter would treat their firearm. Since I have taken that mind set, I have not had the slightest nick. (Just a few large slices) :D

Of course I could be speaking too soon. OOOUCH! :D

Ok, balilover, I got the neosporin and the bandaids, I can imagine the zip ties.. but I don't know how the superglue comes into play. I've seen mention of it a couple times, but not what is done with it... :)

I just gave myself a nice cut, absently practicing a new bali manipulation lefty (I'm a righty) while watching TV. Aren't I the clever one?

I cut myself at an odd angle on my thigh right above me knee a couple years back while clearing brush in Atlanta. To keep the wound from flexing, the Vietnamese guy I was working with put superglue over it to keep the flaps together. It worked pretty well.

I'd heard of this before, but I thought it was a myth. I also heard that it could sting, but mine barely hurt (from the glue, the gash itself hurt like HELL). I think it worked so well since it was pretty flexible and would stretch with my walking motion while keeping the wound together.

Anyway, I only cut myself once this year. It happened while I was demonstrating how the guard in the CRKT KFF PREVENTED an idiot from cutting oneself. Apparently, I'm the Alpha Idiot, capable of overcoming even the simplest mechanisms.

Guys, threat em like you would a firearm.

I think the firearm manufacturers do a bit more to make their guns safe in comparison to knife manufacturers. I have yet to see a gun for sale that has no trigger guard, yet I do see some knives with no handguard at all, and many which have small and inadequate guards. When I cut myself with the BK&T knives, the smooth rounded guard simply rolled right over my hand. I have not owned any gun whose safety mechanism was so ineffective.

My thumb looked like friggin hamburger. It would cut me when I would take my thumb and index finger and wipe the blade off.stop laughing I could hear you. anyway I use my pants now.

Just about the time I cut myself again someone else posts one of these!
I was carving a walking stick for a friend the other day when it rolled in my hand . . . the knife slipped and stabbed into my left hand! Only had to get four stitches but almost went through my hand!!!
Stupid move!
