How many tools do you take (be honest)

Vnox Hiker, and usually a Spyderco Delica.

When thinking of having a campfire because of being stuck in a designated primitive campground, a BK&T BK7 or Blackjack #1-7 for splitting wood, and sometimes a GB small Forest Axe in case I need to do some chopping. I'd call that "car camping" stuff, though.

Carried a Busse Basic 4 in my pack for the last couple of overnighters. It doesn't really have a job, but did get used to hack up some small stuff where I wanted to dump my bivy week before last. Don't know whether that will become a regularly carried item or not.

There's a LM Micra in my first aid kit, and a Vnox Classic on my keys, if those count.

What I carry for the most part, day hikes or overnights.

I do also carry an Old Hickory and my PSK knife.

For one day or sevreal nights I take:
A 4 to 5" fixed blade
an orignial Leatherman more for the tools then the blade
in my pocket I have a key chain with leathem mirco (it was free), hooked with fire started, a AAA led flash light and a little para cord.

Some times I carry a chopper but it deppends on where I'm going.

For hunting I add a spare 3 to 4" blade hunting knife but it is more as a loner then for me, I have some forgetfull freinds.

What I "need" and what I carry are different things. Most of the time I over do it on purpose, just because is fun.

My usual day-hike set-up:

my overnight set-up adds this:

but honestly I'd be fine with any of these:

and then are the ones that are not pictured....
I've always appreciated/enjoyed a good scandi grind.

Excluding a 7" belt knife, this is what I had on the trail the other day.

Of course, it was only a day hike.

2-4 depending on time of year and that's if you include the sak classic. When I go heavy it's usually the classic, edc blade like the izula or sak farmer, fixed blade which is just a koyote stead knife(only belt knife I own), then a wood processor like a gb mini or cs trail hawk.

Edit; subject to change... all the time. :D

2-3. I generally follow the hatchet/belt knife/folder paradigm. Specifically a hatchet or hawk, ~4" scandi or Green River or Fiddleback, and a Vic Rucksack/OHT/Farmer. I've taken a few trips with the BK7 though, which subbed in for both the hatchet and belt knife.

dayhike - a 4" - 6" fixed blade and a SAK
overnighter - same as a dayhike plus a hatchet, folding saw, and multi-tool sometimes I'll put a chopper in my pack and sometimes I'll take a necker along

Anytime I'm in the woods I normally take a chopper and a 4" knife and sometimes an Izula as well. Occasionally I''ll swap out the chopper for a machete depending on where I'm going.

For a day walk, just a SAK Farmer

For a death march, a carbon Mora

For a bushcraft trip, Mora, Silky Saw, Crook knife, baby opinel and SAK classic.

Depends on where I'm going and what I'm doing.

Backpacking fast and light?
-Bahco Saw
-Medium Sized Fixed Blade (7" blade or thereabouts)

Extended backpacking / camping?
-19" Gransfors Axe
-Bahco Saw
-Small Light Duty Knife (Mora #1, usually)

These tools are mainly for fire making, but occasionally I catch Trout, Grouse, or Rabbit that will need to be cleaned.

It's very wet where I live, and in order to have fires during rain / snow storms I need to access the inside of wood. The Bahco Saw is the most useful item I've found for this, so it's always with me, even on day hikes. A medium fixed blade is used to baton wood if my axe is not available. If my axe is available, I switch over to a smaller, more agile knife for carving and cleaning.

In addition to these, I always have my EDC folder on me, but that's just a force of habit from carrying it every day in the city. I rarely use my folder in the woods. Mainly to cut cordage, or gut the occasional trout.

My maximum load-out is:
-Lightweight Folder
-Leatherman (Wave or Original)
-Buck Vanguard or 119
-Gerber Folding Saw
-Condor Golok

If I'm going lightweight I'll only take the saw, Vanguard, and a folder or Leatherman (depending on if I want pliers or not)

On Saturday I did a long day hike and some skills practicing.

I always bring my Järvenpää Aito Puukko in birch bark in a JRE sheath. I put a 'biner through the top loop and wear it as a dangler on my side pants belt loop.

On my front pants belt loop, I always have as SAK.

In addition to those, on yesterday's hike I brought a Ontario RAT-7 and a Kershaw folding saw.

this is what was with me the last over night. The picture does NOT include the ESEE RC 3 secured to my pack, a small Wetterlings Axe, or the Echo CS-400 chainsaw.

Last weekend I went to Iowa for a class with Terry (Midwest School of Bushcraft). While we were out and about I carried: Gerber Sliding Saw, 4" Unscandi Bushcrafter, and an Alox Farmer. While back at camp I had my Gerber Sport axe. The Farmer was never used, next time I might leave it at home.

I had a bunch of other blades but they were either in my truck (otherside of the lake) or they never left my main pack.

I'll second Zombie Zeke and ask what everyone is up to with all of these tools? Where I tend to hike along the AT open fires are not permitted and I'm always within a couple of miles of the various towns that dot the way. That being said I never carry an axe and though I have a nice Helle that I *think* about taking with me every time, the fact that my pack has a load-bearing waistbelt prevents me from wearing it on my hip.

As it happens I almost always end up taking my Spyderco Para-Military and even then, rarely cut anything with it.

That being said and I'm looking at a new Leuku anyways, you know, just in case.

For an overnight [usually involving a hike or approach - I rarely camp near or next to a vehicle], I only bring a Spyderco Military. I very very rarely make fires in the kind of places I go [mostly above tree line], so chopping wood etc. isn't a necessity.

Yesterday, I went for a day hike and carried a ZT 0300.

Most trips, I like to go light so I'll carry [at most] a sturdy folder and a Leatherman multitool. If I'm doing a trip where I'm building a fire, I may bring a GB small forest axe and a fixed blade.

BRKT Aurora on belt
Leatherman Wave, Leatherman Micra and a 3.5-4 inch folder in pocket
Dereelight c2h or cl1h or dbs in other pocket
Buck Hartsook or Spyderco Swick around neck
Also have a firesteel on me

Call me overboard

Tools: An old well worn stockman knife
Toys: A large variable pile of sharp pointy things of all shapes and sizes

I enjoy the outdoors as much as any of you; but, were it as much work as some of us would like to pretend, I would think that most of us would choose to stay home. We generally head out for a weekend walk through a park, not a 19th century expedition into a savage unexplored wilderness, where we would have had to spend weeks trail blazing, harvesting food, and constructing all forms of major infrastructure.
