Hi SOG Enthusiasts, I though this would be a rather cool idea to post this question and see what everyone has to say. The key word is TYPES - not MODELS. A week from now I’ll post a pic that contains the answer. Show me what you know :) If you have any questions let me know. Good luck. Jay

I'm going to say two, but I wouldn't mind just owning one. Will be waiting to see results. Thanks,

Well... you’re probably referring to the Trident S2 and the current Trident 2.0. These are the two most popular Tridents, but are there any more types out there? Hint: Yes

I have two Seki Sog Tridents.
Is this one of them? I got this photo off the net online Sog collectors. I'd like to aquire one of these and an S1 with the leather handle made in seki japan.

I think I've got it there were three from what I've found.

1. S2 "SOG SPECIALTIES" logo on the ricasso, JAPAN stamped on pommel and “SOG SPECIALTIES Santa Monica, CA” on the nylon sheath
2. S2 SOG "Box" logo, “Santa Monica, CA” on nylon sheath w/JAPAN stamped on pommel
3. S2 SOG "Box" logo w/SEKI JAPAN on ricasso, w/nylon and leather sheaths
4. S2B SOG “Box” logo and leather sheath - no country of manufacture stamp
5. Trident 2.0 w/Taiwan on ricasso, various logos and leather sheath
6. S2BR Trident 2.0 w/o finger guard w/Taiwan on ricasso, various logos with an “R” on the ricasso and leather sheath (Sold in Russia and pictured above)
7. SS2 Sterile Trident

Awesome group of Tridents you have there. It seems there is a lot more to know about these blades than I expected. Congrats,

Thanks for those photos Jay. Some thoughts..
1- That "SOG SPECIALITIES" logo model, do you have the box for it or know the designation?
The S1 version was sold as the SOG-1-F so I'm wondering if that Trident has some similar designation preceding S2.
2- The Trident 2.0s both far right in your photos as well as the guardless one have clearly different grind lines at
the ricasso from the Hattori made ones which also always used the protruding airplane nut on the pommel. Very interesting to see
the side-by-side difference.
3-That guardless Trident 2.0 clearly is designed to bypass the Russian law which requires utility knives with blades longer than 95mm to have no guard. Pretty weird looking I think but very unique.

Hey Ken, As far as having a box for #1: No. I feel incredibly lucky just to have the knife and sheath in pristine condition. Also, I’m not aware of the model number either. If I ever come up with more information on it I’ll update accordingly. Best, Jay

LOL! Jeepers Ken... you even know Russian laws on knives. That’s so wild knowing 99.9% of the US population isn’t familiar with the laws in their own state. Impressive!

Hey guys, I seem to have a different one. I've had it for at least 10 years. See what you think

Sorry, forgot to mention the sheath says Lynnwood, WA
That looks like the Trident 2.0 as stated on the box, made in Taiwan. Pommel nut is different from the older S1/S2 knives. Handle is slightly canted down from the blade centerline, sheath might be old stock, as I'm sure the Taiwan knives had plastic poppers.

Yup...Taiwan made knife from that pommel nut. Probably 2006-2007 with that "bullet cutter" logo.
That was a cross over period for SOG and for some models they had both Seki Japan and Taiwan
made ones on the market. After that it became all Taiwan made.

Please pardon my ignorance, but the S2 was made in Japan, and the 2.0 was made in Taiwan?

Correct. The S2 was made by Ichiro Hattori of Seki Japan from 1986-2006.
After that SOG went to Taiwan and introduced the 2.0.
Besides a slight difference in the grind, the pommel nut was changed as well.

Thanks, Ken. I’m certainly no expert, but I do really enjoy knife collecting. I recently added my first SOG, a Seal Pup Elite, which is what brought me to this sub-forum. I’d never even heard of the SOG Tridents until a week or two ago. While I’d prefer to find an S2, I’d be happy to add even a 2.0 to my collection. They’re lovely Bowies.
