How much do you actualy use you multi-tool?

I did like my Victorinox Spirit but since I got a Leatherman TTI I perfer it over the Spirit. As a trademan in the HVAC field I use mine daily and perfer the layout of the leatherman. file, saw and blade are easier to use without opening the pliers. The leathersheath is nice. The only grip is the tiny screwdriver is a poor design and would perfer a slightly larger flathead to turn small t-stat screws on a honeywell t87 t-stats. The grip is better and the setup worth the 110.00 I paid for it. when I am outdoors I love my Victorinox Locksmith and use it when ever I am hiking, fishing or hanging out in the woods.

The more often i carry it the more i use it.

Yes, there was a time when i even couldn´t imagine to buy one, but after i had one i couldn´t imagine how i could got around without one.:D

I have two tools, a LM Charge TTi and a SOG Powerlock. I bought the TTI mainly for hiking and such, as well as making the occasional trip to work (when I want to bring something more robust than a SAK Soldier with me). I've used it for:
- stripping bark and cutting off knots off a walking stick
- phillips bit for the Tech Lock for my RAT 3
- can opener for obvious purposes when my normal one crapped out a few months back
-flathead screwdriver for lifting stuff (paint can lids)
- Scissors for....cutting things
- Stirring tea or soup in a thurmos with the pe blade
Strangely enough, I've never really used the blades for their intended purpose. I usually carry my RAT 3 (or a Buck 105, but I usually don't like something that big) if I need a knife to cut something with.

The PowerLock. I bought this beast solely to have it in my car. I absolutely adore the pliers on this thing, as well as the exceedingly sturdy construction and its customizable nature. The downside? Everything clumps like a mofo, I can't reach smaller tools easily enough, and the edge of the saw/blade face the inside of the handle if I ever need to use them, meaning I would have to hold the tool at an angle or something. Other than those gripes, I haven't really used it alot, and it's really just there for emergencies.

I also have more SAKs than I know what to do with, but I've been bitten by the collecting bug.

I have a Leatherman Charge XTi and have had Waves since they came out. I am a facilities maintanance tech for our school district and I use my Carge all the time. It has saved me many trips back to my van or to the shop. I've used the pliers for so many things, such as pulling golf balls out of downspouts 3 stories up on our high school and so many instances, I can't even name them all. The screwdrivers, pliers and file get used the most, but all the tools have their turn.

e-mailed Gerber yesterday (based on this thread renewing my interest) about what it would take to convert my Snub Nose to Needle Nose. They e-mailed me back for my address and said they would send me needle jaws gratis and thanked me for buying Gerber. I'll stick with Gerber for now. ;)

Leatherman Kick-use the phillips head religiously
cut many guitar strings with wire cutters
lots of beers w/bottle opener
knife opens tons o' crap
(about all the kick is good for ^^^)

Vic Ranger-probably 100+bottles of wine
numerous beers opened
tweezers!
cut nails

I dont know is it only me but my Wave sometiems get very sludged up sometimes after i spray some WD-40 onto it (i spray on the parts that moves and can pivit). Does this happen to any other Wave owners or is it just me?

Hi,

WD-40 tends to polymerize (get gunked up) on exposure to air. That is why it is great for displacing moisture (Water Displacing = WD) from ignition wires and then preventing moisture from getting back in (eg; gunking up). I don't think it is a great lubricant.

I douch mine with alchahol and compressed air. then lube it up with way oil or 3 in 1.
I didn't have it at work with me Monday and I was reaching for it.

I use my wave 1 every day. I work light industrial and It'll do everything from tightening nuts and screws, stripping wires, to cutting cardboard and 2 x4s I'll even admit that I used the saw the other day to cut through 1x1 aluminum tubing! and it still rips through wood like nothing.
The only problem is that it tends to bite when using the pliers, I often get the skin on my fingers caught in between the inside edge of the plier handles. I don't know if they addressed this in later models? I wouldn't hesitate for 1 minute if I had to buy another.
cheers,

^ WOh some heavy duty stuff your putting the Wave through. I never knew that it could cut through aluminum or any metal stuff..

LM charge xti,ti,crunch,squirt p4,Spyderco spyderench,Swisstool.

-i use one of those everyday, from basic screwdriver use to cutting used tattoo needles, etc. ive had Leathermans sibce they came here in Finland, from 1993?,everyone said that its just a useless gadget then...well not for me.it would be cool if i could do the same kind of modifications/blade changings, that i can do to SAK´s.

i use ultrasonic cleaner to take out the dirt, then blow em dry with compressed air and use sewing-machine oil to make em slick again.

and i sure do wish that someday ill find some proper sharpener for those LM serrated blades.

Hi Perkele 13,

Take a look at the Spyderco Sharpmaker - it does a great job on serrated blades.

Cheers - Joe
