• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

how much do you charge family for sharpening?

Family and friends I do for free. Sometimes they force $$$ on me or bring me a six pack. Mostly on my kali. If it is a knife that deserves it I will do it on my WEPS. Others I usually charge $5 to cover belts, stones. etc.

You practice on family man! Cause if a new tool or technique goofs up, you're still family...they can't kick you out!

I'm doing them free, however I may start charging for knives that quite literally don't have an edge to sharpen and I have to make the edge because that takes too much of my time.

Maybe just a little... But it adds a LOT of geek-cred to be able to whip out a BELT GRINDER from the trunk. :D

I sharpen for good friends and family for free- but I dont do a mirror edge or anything- they go to my sander, then the sharpmaker and strops for a hair splitting edge

everybody else is charged 5 bux, or 5 bux + 50 cents an inch- depends on the mood :p

mirror edge is $10 + $1 an inch

I don't mind sharpening knives for family, however, I don't really like spending my only day off catching up on knives. How much have you guys been charging your family members for sharpening services?

I was thinking I would maintain there 2 most used for free, and the charge whatever for the rest.

I just dropped 400 on a new wicked edge system and I figure I might be able to make a little of that back.

Also, how much would you charge someone who isn't kin?

Replacement stones are expensive. I'd say 2 knives for free and $8 for each additional knife.

Free, but it's not a one way street. My family does plenty for me. I only sharpen good knifes. Crappy knives I don't waste my time on, & I tell them why.
Seriously blunt knives don't bother me. It will be a knife I haven't seen before, & will never be that blunt again.

Family for free, some friends for free depending on the knife and care taken. I've turned down sharpening a knife because of the abuse and lack of care. Generally recommend using the sidewalk as a sharpening stone for those knives and owners.
