Just curious, how much do you guys pay for LN, per liter? and for anyone with a 30+ liter dewar whats your hold time appx? thanks

Right now locally (welding Supply) its at $20-25 for 10 liters. Best time I've got is just over 2 weeks, this was in the
dead heat of summer. I'm guessing in a chest freezer I could do a bit better on time. I usually heat treat a couple of
times a week. I often use dry ice and alcohol---- right now I'm at $5.67 for 3 lbs of dry ice.
Ken.

I get mine for $0.92 per liter, my dewer will hold enough to submerge a blade for six to eight weeks depending on time of year.

I'm paying just over a buck a liter, and my 35 liter dewar will last between two and three months, depending on how much activity it's seeing.

$2/liter

I'm getting about 6 weeks with regular usage.

It set it in chest freezer sitting on foam. The freezer is off, it just reduces air movement. One advantage to this approach is the freezer becomes a dry nitrogen environment, so any work you do in it has less frost and condensation because the air is pretty dry in there.

One guy quoted us $4 a liter yesterday:rolleyes: Everybody else was already closed so hopefully they will be more reasonable..$123 to fill a 31L dewar, yea ok...

i have a big mouth 20l thought i was getting a great deal at 2.50 a L (better then the 5$ a fill i was paying )
i can count on a good month with 2 big HTs in it (first HT is larger blades and the 2nd most often is razors pares and steak knives )

Well another place quoted $3.70 per liter..I think its gonna be one of the between a rock and a hard place kinda deals..Only game in town and they know it..

Dang!!!!! Can you jump up on the parkway and go to a bigger town to get some of the $1 stuff?

That's the plan..Im not a cheapskate don't get me wrong but I know that's a gouge price for sure.. I just called a place near Ashland(little over an hour away) and it was about half price at $69 for 30L..

Isn't LN just a waste byproduct of oxygen distillation?

I mean, all they're doing is taking free air, taking out the good stuff and selling you the dregs? meh...

I grew up in Ashland. They are probably getting it from the plant between Ashland and Russell.

Really? that's cool. I live down us23 about an hour and 15 minutes..Im up in Ashland pretty regularly.

I haven't had much time to search, but around here the only place I know of is airgass and they want 4$ a litter. I'm hoping I can find a Select Sires truck that can swing by once a month or two and fill my tank. They do that for people that AI there cattle, and it's generally not that expensive.

Yep. Graduated from Russell High School. Dad worked at the (was Ashland Oil, now Marathon) refinery on 23.

If you have an issue finding it up there let me know and I might know someone who would have a line on the better local gas suppliers. He just retired but was a specialty welder.
