Just as the title says, how much do you spend a year "collecting" knives. This can include things like oil and wax and other care products. Don't have to go down to single dollar amounts, rough estimates are fine. I'm doing a little project for my Stat. class. Thanks guys :)

Moving to Blade Discussion Forum.

About $1000 last year. Probably going to be a little more this year.

There was a forum post at the beginning of January, "How much did you spend on knives last year." That might be a good source of data for your research.

Best Wishes,
Bob

Thanks for the heads up :)

There are people that start out small and then spend more and more, and there are other people, like me, that do the opposite. I spent about $2,000/yr for the first couple of years, then down to less than $1,000/yr, and it will probably be even less in the future since I have only a couple of knife "needs", although I will probably continue to make impulse purchases. Also, I sell as many knives as I buy, so my out-of-pocket expenditures are probably closer to $500/yr. In general, I buy fewer and better knives than when I started out. My productions are rarely over $120 and my customs rarely over $250.

I'd spend millions, maybe billions, if I could, but I'd say last year I probably spent only like $200-400 if that.

I would say I spent about $2000. I have been pumping a lot of money into my other hobby. Astronomy. I just got a new solar filter which cost me over $6000.

Hopefully, it's made of some very nice Damascus with maybe some mother of pearl inserts???

Let's see, last year: there was a trip to Eugene, Oregon. That's not to expensive since I can drive. But I flew to Atlanta, Georgia for Bladeshow. And I flew to Moscow, Russia for the Klinok show. So, there was about three grand in travel-related expenses alone.

This is the view I get when I look at the sun.

When I was really building up my Busse collection, I probably spent around 8k
in my best year. I have kind of tapered off since then, although I did spend around $1400 in December. (well, the wife said that since I probably wanted a knife anyway, to just take care of my gift myself.) :D

Already spent 800US$ this year. . . .
Mostly a preowned knives from our forumites
:)

If I mentioned how much I spend on knives per year (mainly shipping costs from trading back and forth), and if my wife were to get ahold of this information, I'd be dead-meat, so, due to self-preservation, I'm keeping mum.:D.

Well, last year was my first year "collecting". Not even a whole year either. I started getting into knives right around my join date.

So far, till now it's been somewhere around $700-800. Don't work, did in the summer though, most of it went to knives and stuff. 15 years old.

My first year after discovering the forums, I spent ~$3600.
Sometimes I will go 6 months without buying anything, though.
Year before last, figuring in what I spent vs. what I sold, I spent ~$125 for the whole year.
Finally, at the end of last year, I decided I was done.
DONE, I tell you. No more. Don't need any more. Don't want any more. Won't buy any more.
40 days into this year, and ~$700 in knives later, I'm looking at spending a couple hundred bucks to get into kydex/concealex sheathmaking, 'cause I figure it will save me money over buying aftermarket sheaths for all the new knives I'm getting
Maybe I need counseling.
