I try to buy one knife per month. Of course there are the many customs that can ship to you 3 days after the maker calls you. Some of those should be coming soon. After almost 10 years of buying quality knives, I'm going more for quality over quantity. I think I have less than 30 knives to my collection. For most purchases, I think they are between $200 and $500. Doesn't mean I won't snatch up a CRKT Corkum 1st Strike for $20 though.

I haven't gotten into customs yet, though I feel I may soon be making that move after EDCing a Sebenza 21 the past couple weeks.

Like most of us, I started out slow with cheap folders and SAKs, but after I picked up my first quality folders in form of a Byrd Cara Cara and Benchmade full-size Grip, my average knife costs around $100-120. Naturally, some knives are on the lower end (think Delica, Griptilian) and higher end (Sebenza, Al Mar). I'm pretty happy with the balance I've established though.

No limits!

The average $ I spend on one knife is 600-2000.

Kind regards,

Jos

I've had to stop spending, anyone who says this recession is over hasnt lived at my place.
however, the odd slipjoint pops up in the mail from time to time.

I will usually spend whatever it takes to get an Emerson 'fix'. I put down 150-300 but I think it is closer to a $250 average.

50-150 is the ideal for me. Cheap enough to be used but usually good enough to be used. :)

With the way prices are for production fixed blades, it makes no sense to go with anything other than a custom. It's just not that much more. Average around $150-$200 for me.

$150-$300. Most of my knives which I have purchased over the last several years run up to $200 with the low end running around $125. There have been a couple for less but only a couple.

I notice my purchases have changed form production (RAT, H.I.) to customs and is going deeper in that direction. I've gotten to where finer nuances of design mean more than just whether the tool will cut and what it costs. I've become willing to spend more (often at considerable sacrifice) in order to attain something exceptional.

Don't think I can average-out the cost of my knife habit.

My purchases run the range of $6.51 (which I just spent today to purchase a 2 Rough Rider knives) up to $450 max (personal limit). Dropped some dough for 2 Spydercos, 2 Condor bushies and 2 customs this month as well.

I'm averaging about $500 right now, but that's truly an "average" - some are more, some are less.

I've never spent over $80 on a knife as of now. But There are a few knives that I must own and they will be over $100-$150

I have been trying very hard to keep only a small number of users and not accumulate too many at once. I tend to try to swap when I want to try something new, but when I do buy a knife (not that often) it tends to be in the $50-$150 range.

I started slow, but my average price just keeps going up. $560 on my last 10, with not a single knife over $100. GEC and S&M in the $65-$95 range. Next up--CUSTOMS!

I think the longer we're in this obsession the higher the price range becomes. When I started buying case slipjoints I was spending about $35. My first Spydrco in circa 1990 was about $50. It wasn't until this spring that I got over $100 for a knife. There are several knives I want that are in the $100 to $150 range and then there is the Sebenza that has always been out of reach but one day I'll have one. Of course there are still knives under $100 that I lust after and I'll add those to my collection as funds allow.

Its gradually been increasing. I average about one knife every month or two. No customs just quality production stuff mostly (Emerson, Spyderco etc) Ranging from $50 - $150.

I don't have a set price. If I have the money to spend and the purchase won't put me in dire financial straights, the sky's the limit.

The most important thing to me is that I like the knife. Price is secondary to the purchase being considered. For me to buy a knife I have to like the design and be satisfied with its quality, then I'll worry about the price (maker, country of origin and all that means nothing to me... I have to like the knife).

My last two purchases are at opposite ends of the spectrum, but have turned out to be two of my favorite knives. I bought a Spyderco Paramilitary for $145 shipped and then an Opinel No. 6 for less than $8. Both are fantastic knives.

I don't try and buy a certain number of knives a month... in fact I've bought no more than five since 2006.

If you set a budget and won't move from that budget, you're missing out on a lot of great knives.

I think we all keep spending more as time goes on, first its benchmades, then a sebenza, then onto striders, next comes the xm-18 ...then you cant find an xm-18...so back to a strider, then sell that and onto a custom while you still have an eye out for an xm-18. before you know it 550.00 becomes your average.
