I've been attempting to track my purchases over this year and was wondering how I fare compared to the rest of you knife knuts. By my calculations I've spent $1,587.52 on knives (and knife related stuff) since the beginning of this year. I divided that by 11 (I counted November even though we haven't made it all the way through the month yet) and it looks like I averaged $144.32 per month. I'm guessing that I'm way ahead of a lot of you and way behind a lot of you.

I've created my first poll to see where I stand among the other knuts.

That's your first mistake.

Never do that.

There are some things that are best not to know.

That's exactly what I realized when I figured out the average--thought I'd share the joy with everyone else :p  ;) . Actually, the more important reason for keeping track of purchases was to make sure that I was getting everything that I ordered. I always have a bunch of stuff in the mail and sometimes forget what I ordered. I still have a couple of things that were mailed out months ago and never arrived (one order is two months overdue and another is 5 or 6 months overdue) so I want to be sure that I pay attention to what's going on with all of my orders.

The knife spending actually isn't too bad by itself, but when you add the $165.56 per month on Flashlights and Flashlight stuff, it starts to add up.

I'm not brave enough to actually do the math, but I think I've kept it under $100. I wasn't buying much earlier this year since I was still out of the country, so that helped to keep my average down. Now I need to start saving for computer parts, so I have to cut back. :grumpy:

After thinking about it, I now realize where my new bike and new firearm funds went :( :) ;) Thank goodness I enjoy Spam so much:D

I think I've spent a little over $300 for the entire year so far on knives, but I only got the bug over the summer when I got my first >$60 knife. Then my standard of quality just kept rising.

After I get a Typhoon w/ training blade, I'll be done for the year.

I'm only responding because I know my wife won't read this...I've spent $1235 on knives just since the Blade Show in June.
I've got a sickness, man. I need professional help.

Somewhere between $200.00 and $400.00 a month would be my average. This amount will go to buy only one or two knives a year. I have all the working knives I will need to last until I die (even so, i am sure I will purchase a few more) so I now concentrate on the knives I collect. These are high end bowies from the $800.00 to $4000.00 range. It takes me a whole year to save up for knives in this price range.

This year?

total divided by 12 to arrive at the sum of $300.00 per month [ these are for me ].

As a reseller at the retail level, if I were to give the figures for customers purchases, it would screwer the results. That figure would be roughly 10,000 this year.

As I don't make an overly large amount of $$$ per year, I am quite limited in my knife spending. I probably average right around $50 a month, probably a bit less. I tend to save up, and make a big purchase, and end up trading back and forth for the rest of my knives. My total net worth of knives I own tends to sit right around $2K, and seldom grows. I usually end up giving knives to my family and friends to even things out.

I will spend 1000.00 to 2000.00 in a month...then nothing for 5 or 6 months. So, I'm not sure an "average" would be too accurate plotting my knife spending habits.

I picked 2 different random months records: June 2003 - $1195.99; October 2003 - $991.13.....now I'm afraid to look at those other months! I keep telling myself '...you've got to slow down!' Answering this post really makes me see that fact!

Since I got my first Spyderco Police in August of 2002 I have set up a little spreadsheet to help track my purchases and boy, was that an eye opener. So far, I have about 66 knives at a total cost of about $4000= about $285 per month.
First there was that sale on Spydies at Smokey Mountain Knifeworks, then the one at Outdoor America Store, then the ones on ebay that were just going too cheap, then I got into that Micheal Walker thing, then the carbon fiber thing... oh yea, then the hawkbills...etc...

I can stop anytime I want... I guess... if I have to...

Maybe just a small Sebenza for Christmas and I'll be all set,eh?
