How much is this dagger worth

It's a Yari of a type that was used from the 14th century to the 18th. If it's an original, then it's worth a lot more then $50. If it's something made currently as a tourist item, not so much. If it was made recently by someone like Paul Chen, then it still has some value as if he were to sell a Yari like this it would be say $700. It is so unusual for something like this to show up that the knee jerk reaction is to dismiss it as a tourist item made for a wall hanger. The thing that argues that it has some age or quality is that the guy from the pawn shop was willing to offer $50. If he offers $50, then he must think it's worth at least $500. I would take it to someone who reads Japanese & get a translation of the writing & take it from there. Good luck. :)

Mecha is pulling your leg. Look up his prior work.
The bladed work, that is.
I strongly suspect, it is not made by Chen:p

Further more, itll be worth a tad more than $50. A tad.

Explaining a joke , ruins the joke !;)

EDIT : Did't see above post !

Jumonji Yari! My boxing coach had one on his wall back when I was in high school... Always thought it was cool.

Edit*
Well hello there....

Well shit in a bag and punch it! Looks like Yakiba has one of the same production run of this dagger. Good find, Fixall. Maybe the pawn shop guy was right when he said there were millions of these brought back as war trophies after the moon landing.

You can say a lot of things about Mecha, but no matter what, you hang around him long enough, you will learn something. It may not be immediately useful, but it will be education none the less.

if a pawn shop offered you 50, I'd think he would at minimum think it's worth double, or even $200

in case it helps the translation, here is a zoomed up picture:

.... not now, I did work in a seafood market when i was a younger guy though. Old Aussie saying... 'don't come the raw prawn with me mate"... ;)
I have no concept what that means , but I like it 'cause it sounds kinda dirty !

Have you seen the size of the gators down here.....:D

When I lived in New Orleans the second house my family owned was in a country club community called English Turn. It had a golf course and everything, complete with a resident 10 foor alligator. I remember I would often ask my mother, “who would win in a fight, Jaws or out alligator?”

Well one day then recently retired president George Bush senior came to play golf. To make a long story short they shot the gator before he got there. My mother told me the secret service assassinated our gator.
