How much is too much for edc

Check out the o light m10, small, 350lum on max output with a new battery, takes one cr123, great light.
Here's what I carry:
Pack of gum
ZT0770
O Light M10
Wallet
Phone
Quik Clot in cargo pocket

I carry a firearm or 2, 2 knifes, a zippo, pen, bandana/hankercheif, light, wallet and my key fob all in my pockets......everything else is in a bag in the car or around me.

How often do you end up using what you carry?

To the true nut cases, like myself, that's not the point of EDC. The point is to feel good by preparing for the what ifs. I'm 51 years old, and can honestly say I have never really "needed" any of my EDC except for the wallet, phone and maybe a light. Even so, I also carry a gun, pen, SAK, small plier-based MT, and mini Sharpie. I focus on carrying the smallest items that provide the most utility for their size. The Fisher space pen is a good example. When collapsed, its hard to find in the bottom of your pocket. But it folds out into a full sized pen.

Consider the guys who EDC a fire kit in their urban man sack. Honestly, that borders on the stupid. But again, that's not the point. Carrying a fire kit makes them feel prepared for the asteroid storm or nuclear winter that will never happen, and feeling prepared soothes that subconscious part of them that goes through life feeling unprepared, inert or emasculated. You "normal" guys who don't have this neurosis can't relate to the compulsion to carry a whistle or an emergency blanket. This stuff makes no real sense until you figure out why certain people carry what they carry.

So what is "too much" EDC stuff? I think that's really up to the individual. I carry as much as I can (of the size efficient, utility efficient stuff), so long as my pants don't start poofing out like Oompa Loompas.

Typical Powernoodle EDC, plus Samsung S2 Skyrocket.

I try to keep it as simple as possible. Some days it may vary slightly depending on what I'm doing and where I'm going, but this is typical... And I do believe a small compact flashlight is a very good thing to EDC. I've needed mine countless times.

You're right Powernoodle, I don't understand the feel good component that you describe (although whether this makes me normal is debatable). There is certainly nothing wrong with carrying whatever makes you feel comfortable. I was just trying to help the OP who asked if he was carrying too much. However since I am likely approaching this from an outside paradigm, I will excuse myself from this discussion.

I have cut down my EDC gear as much as I could, pretty much left with things I use several times a day, or that I hope to never use, but never want to be without. If I am working on a project I might replace the skeletool CX with a surge, I do rotate my large blade EDC between a few models I like, and in hot weather I swap the G30SF for a much thinner and lighter XDs. If I head south to MD(common folk can't CC there), I swap the firearm for a 3oz sabre red can in a holster. It is a fair amount of gear, but a pair of cargo pants or carpenter jeans with my 5.11 belt has enough pockets to safely stow it all, a jacket makes it even easier to carry. I keep a pack with most of the bulky gear I'm not likely to use as often, lighter, rope, gorilla tape, zip-ties, basic tools, 20K lb ratchet strap, med kit, E-tool, small hawk, flares, larger flashlight, poncho, extra diapers/wipes for the 2YO.

It's funny, when I go on the EDC threads some guys are carrying way too much stuff!

Im Simple. Wallet keys phone and knife.

I'm the opposite of some. I wish I could carry a bunch of high quality awesome gear. But I can't bring myself to buy/keep, let alone carry, something I don't use often. I carry a fixed blade, some cordage, a lighter, a stone, and a bigger flashlight in my bag that I have most of the time for school/camping/trips/etc. On my person I always have a small notepad and pen, a knife or two (if two its usually a small people friendly one and a bigger one for food prep and such), my wallet, my watch, and my keychain (keys, small bladeless multitool, micro light). I use all of the things i carry on my person daily. I'm thinking about seeing if I handkerchief comes in handy, as I have room and do get messy.

I keep it to my edc blade and a fenix E15 on my keychain, now my ample medical/first aid kit in the car is another story

A lot of tech advance has gone into portable lighting in just the past ten years or so. Luma lite, Streamlight, Pelican, and just like the proverbial Jarbenza in the fish bowl at checkout there are literally a hundred overseas manufactures of 'Jarlitezas' for $2 that shine brighter than the old AA Aircraft aluminum standby. Streamlight makes a penlite same size as a Parker ballpoint. I use it all the time. The days of lugging a Coleman lantern out are passing I'm afraid.

Edc right pocket or iwb right side, wallet left front, and keys in my leather. keepem sharp

I would dump the Byrd and the mini mag. Get a Peak keychain flashlight.

I have came to the conclusion that I might carry a little too much for edc. I caught my self today saying I'm gonna start carrying a zippo but then I said where am I going to put it?
Here's my current edc
- byrd cara cara 2
- case medium stockman
- sak tinker
- chapstick
- vial of asprin
- mini mag-lite
- keys
- phone (HTC EVO)
- wallet

I don't carry anything on a belt because i just don't like stuff to dangle so everything go in pockets generally in my left front and right front pockets with the exception of the wallet which goes in back right pocket, has anyone else had this problem or is it just me? It's driving me insaine

This is my current edc as of today. The little guy in the middle and the spyderco just came in the mail. I'm thinking is the ukpk and mt in my knapsack overkill? Naw heck no...lol.

Not pictured below is my phone (using to take the pic), my keys (house key & car key only), and my money clip (b/c wallets are overkill). What is pictured is:

~ 4Sevens Preon II light (clipped to shirt pocket)
~ RAT-1 (clipped to right front pants pocket)
~ GEC #72 (inside left front pants pocket)

~ Lip balm (wherever)
~ Handkerchief (w/ comb tucked inside in back pants pocket)
