How much is too much to pay for a dog?

I had to pay $1600.00 to put my dog to sleep. That was the vets bill and funeral costs. I would have paid 10x to keep him alive if it had been possible. I strongly suggest that if you are buying a pure breed you get them checked out for thier 'known issues'.

Purebred dogs are great if that's what you want but there are so many dogs that need to be adopted, I'd steer you that way if I could. For a dog with a decent line and papers, $1000 not that much.

Clyde is just the latest mutt that adopted me. I've had 2 purebred Scottish Terriers but my other friends have all been All-Americans. Purebred or mutt... they have all been great!

Like I said in an earlier post, I'd save a mutt's life through www.petfinder.com but you can't really go wrong with either a mutt or a purebred. I've had both purebred's (Huskies & Labs) and mutt's. The mutt's have been healthier and seemed more intelligent. But I loved each and every one of them regardless because they were all loyal and obedient. The current dog I have now I adopted off of petfinder (from The Furry Friends Network in Carlisle, PA) and he's absolutely great. I adopted him for $180 bucks @ 1 year old and they already had him fixed, his shots taken care of, he was already housebroken, knew some commands and came with a bunch of dog food, toys and stuff. He's well worth it in my opinion. It's the only way I'll get a dog anymore. He's now bonded to me and my wife like glue. It's going to be very hard on us when he passes on...

$1000 isn't too much for the right purebred dog. With a good bloodline it might even be a "good" deal depending on the bred. Good luck with your choice. You'll do good getting one either way you go.

When it comes right down to it, dog's are still the best friend you'll ever have.

Get the dog you want. He (or she) will be your best buddy for the next 12 years or so. That’s only about 80 dollars a year. You will pay a lot more in food, vet bills, and accessories. Ah yes, the accessories. You will need dog-scrapers, dog-stretchers, dog-wax, etc.
