How much is too much?

First off, this is strictly for fun. This doesn't apply to anyone in any way.

What do you think is a healthy amount of knives for someone to buy in a month, year, etc.?
Let's do this under the assumption that the knives said person is buying are appropriate to their income. So say 50k a year, Civivi, Kershaw, etc. 80k knives more like CRK, Hinderer, and so on. They could afford a good number of them without financial hardship. I'm just curious what everyone thinks. There was a little stretch a while back that I could say I was probably going a bit overboard. Mainly because I was outpacing my ability to store everything. I just never thought about it too much until tonight. Let alone try to put a number on it.
Healthy amount? I think as often as possible, my wife would disagree though 🤣

I carried a SAK in my pocket every day for the better part of 40 years. That’s all I had for a knife for the longest time, that’s all I ever really needed. That was enough. Someone gifted me a fixed knife and hatchet set back in the ‘80’s which I used a bit because I had it, but I didn’t really need it. Fast forward to a couple of years ago when I grabbed my first ‘nice’ pocket folder, a Kershaw Blur in S30V steel, and that was the first step down the rabbit hole. Everything from that knife forward for me was too much. But I ain’t giving any of them back.

To me, I'll change my EDC folder every year or two and try a new knife. For the collection, I don't limit by money except what I can afford for discretionary spending, I limit it by only collecting a few makers and brands that all have resale value higher than retail.

That means I don't always score because of how competitive and scarce releases are, and when I do score, I can always turn it back into cash without losing any money.

I have quite a few hobbies that I rotate my focus on organically. Or find a new one all together. I first started collecting knives around 8yrs ago and got up to 20-30 knives. Moved on to another hobby and didn’t buy anything for probably 4 yrs. I started buying again about a year ago, then found BF and the shit has hit the fan. I’ve definitely doubled my collection in the past yr but also sold a few. I’d say it’s never enough as long as it’s not financially hurting ya!
