How Much Money is on Your Keychain?

My daughter, who'll be starting college in the fall, bought me a university keychain from the student store at the college she'll be attending. I carry it in my pocket now. I estimate the cost of that keychain to be about $160,000. :D

We have a winner, no more entries please!

My keychain tools come in handy all mof the time. One dramatic case was a time when I had to dry clothes at a laundromat because my dryer had broken down. My youngest locked herself in the laundromat bathroom while no manager was present. I took my Mini-Champ screwdriver and took the lock off of the door, got my daughter out and put the lock back together in ten minutes. I couldn't do that with no tools.

I'm pretty sure I can do that with the plain-jane SAK that I carry on a day-to-day basis. Like ericvar101 mentioned, I have a folder in my pocket 99.9% of the time - why would I slap another two or three on my keychain? For example, How many knives do you usually carry, apart from your keychain? What can the two Manbugs, two Victorinoxes, and an Al Mar do that your normal every-day use knife/multi-tool couldn't accomplish just as easily?

This isn't to rag on you, I've just seen people lugging around keychains heavy enough to make decent boat anchors and I'm really curious about why some folks carry so very, very much on their keychains. What advantages could there be?

Right now? $30 Victorinox Alox Cadet. I can't stand excessive keys or even cards in my wallet.

With miscellaneous carabiners, I usually will change to a different key chain tool every week.

On keys: Victorinox Cadet.
From left to right: Leatherman PocketToolX Piranha, Victorinox Farmer, Spyderco Ladybug Hawkbill Salt, Leatherman Micra, Leatherman Squirt, Victorniox Manager, Victorinox Classic, Victorinox Classic Alox.

VW car key, house key, toolbox key(work), state inspecion box key(work) and my gym pass. And i think this is waaaay too much. Its too hot to have a big wad of crap in my pocket all the time. I prefer my main blade and nothing else. Being a mechanic i have tools at work, at home and in my car so i have more than any sak could provide with me most of the time, just not in my pocket. I love winter because i throw all kind of shit on my keychain and put it in my jacket lol. I carry flashlights magnets, pocket screwdrivers and a whole bunch of other crap lol.

I work in a fairly knife-phobic environment. Keychain knives are non-threatening and useful. Having them on my keychain also great reduces the likelihood of losing small knives. Keychain knives work for me. Your mileage may vary.

i have maybe 150 on my keychain. CRKT Turtle, high powered Fenix flashlight, backup battery for my iphone, bottle opener, tool for my vapor Pro iPhone Case, and a guitar pick.

These are my keychains. I guess they are gigantic by most standards, but they are not an issue for me.

Zero.

One car key (I have combination house locks). One folder in RF pocket. SAK Classics stashed just about everywhere else (car, work desk, home desk, bag, tool box etc.)

Lets see I spent 32 dollars plus shipping on a Ti split ring and a couple Ti mcgizmo spring clips. 52 dollar TI DQG tiny AAA flashlight. 200 dollar sterling sliver Tiffany's classic sak. A VW switchblade/remote key cost 200 dollars, My cool snapon wrench toolbox key cost about 10 bucks.
holy schnikes thats just a touch under 500 dollars, luckily the key came with the car and the SAK was a gift.

Well these days I'm doing the minimalist thing so I've gotten rid of the Peanut lighter, SOG Micron, and a Micro LED Light and only kept a $20 STi carbon fiber keychain I purchase on Ebay :D

I've got three keys, a Browning keychain, and a tiny Lego Darth Vader keychain on my keys so far. Maybe $10 tops.

Might add a SOG Micron/small Spydie to it, depending on bulk.

Glowring - $20
Gerber Artifact - $15
GITD Epoxy fob - $5
AG Russell Tweezers - $9
Utili-Key - $10
Small Ti Whistle - $25
Handcuff Key - $4
Lummi Al RAW - $125

Looks like I'm at $213.

The double Manbugs and SAK on one key chain is whats throwing me. I can understand one light knife, but three, especially with two being exactly the same? Seems excessive.

For me, I carry an eGear flashlight on mine, Carkey/fob, key to my gym locker, and key to my knife safe. I clip this to my belt when out and about, but I usually leave it on my desk at work, don't like having it in my pocket when I am sitting. House keys go on a separate key chain that stays locked up in the car. I do carry a small carabiner with a SAK Alox SD, a Split Pea lighter, and another eGear flashlight. The Carabiner is usually in my pocket when I am not carrying my Car keys.

Not counting keys (dunno how much they are for my Honda), total value is about $25

Two Manbugs is overkill, but I get a kick out of the fact that one is VG10 and the other is ZDP189. I may get a Hawkbill keychain Salt for my other keychain.

Not just key chain, but what I'm wearing, and carrying is just crazy when you think of the dollar figure.

Key Chain - 45 dollar 4sevens quark mini123, 3 dollar nite ize s-biner

Shoes, 100 dollars, belt 80 dollars, pants 40-50, shirt 10-50, sunglasses 250, handgun 350-500, spare mag 30 dollars, knife 60-260 dollars, flashlight in pocket 60-165 dollars....

So basically you're wearing about 1,000 dollars worth of gear. Life is expensive.

When you have your keys out, you are most always in or near your car.

Nothing on my keychain but a few brass keys (also hate the feeling of bulk in my pockets). I do keep a few tools like flashlights and such in my car though.

The pocket knives I actually carry tend to be those that are light and/or slim. A SAK 'Soldier' is the bulkiest thing I care to keep in my pockets. I favor a Case Large Toothpick because the grip scales are much more slim than other examples of that style, and the 'Toothpick' style uses a very slim and slender blade. That combo allows me to carry a large blade with a lot of cutting edge, but yet it still vanishes in a pocket.

I don't even carry a real wallet - just a 2 pocket, single fold card wallet. Because you don't notice it when you sit on it.

In my opinion EDC gear needs to stay the heck out of the way until you need it. The tools serve me, not the other way around.
