can you link me, he's a uk smith, one of very few, so there's not really many opportunitys to show off but I know he does go to shows and all which there is.

There is not one unique steel used for springs, but 5160 is a common one. 10xx series is AFAIK not so easy to through-harden, especially in the thickness of a spring.
