How not to conduct yourself in sales threads (even your own)

danboy357 proved to not be a man of his word and douched out on me. So this is still available.

Didn't realize I was dealing with such a crybaby. I'd advise to stay away from this one. Anyone willing to publicly bash someone because a sale didn't happen is not someone I want to business with. Maybe your just PMSing and is usually more well mannered. In any case, very happy I decided not to purchase from you.

If you said you will take it and then backed out, you sir are in the wrong.

It is childish and impulsive to say "I'll take it" and the back out. Unless there was an unforeseen emergency you are obligated to buy the item.

Kind of like yelling Bingo in a Bingo Parlor when you are missing two of the numbers needed for bingo. In this Forum yelling Bingo (I will take it) when you don't have it more than once will get you a nasty reputation.

If you said "I'll take it"..............................................Strike one

Not trying to be a smart ass but obligated by who exactly?

As I read it, the Forum and Exchange members. Perhaps others would have chosen a word other than "obligated", but I think he expressed his opinion clearly enough.

if you said "ill take it" you have given your word to pay for something. By backing out you are essentially flaking out. Lets think about this for a second before you respond........... you started this thread and then edited your original post, he was no where near being wrong for posting a response especially if you really did flake out.

The posted rules are pretty clear in this matter. While the Buyer was clearly wrong, the seller didn't help matters by his wording and accusation in his own thread. These are infractable offenses.

The Exchange Rules said:
Buyers/Buying -
1.Be 100% sure that you can financially afford to purchase the item before offering to do so. If you cannot commit 100% to buying the item, then move along. Be responsible and use your best judgement.
2.Ask any questions needed before the deal is agreed upon, make sure you want the item being sold and that the price is affordable to you.
3.Be prompt with your payment. The seller has the right to determine how they want payment and if they will work with you.
4.Provide an accurate shipping address. Make sure the seller has that shipping address. Open and clear communication via email or Private Messaging is encouraged between the parties involved for every detail of the transaction.
5.Do not post in a person's thread unless you have an implicit interest in buying the item. Posts like, "Nice knife!", "Why is the price so high/low?", "I wish I had funds" are not allowed. This means absolutely no commentary or feedback in someone's sales thread. Seriously, if you stomp on someone's ad, your account can and will be locked. The only exception to this is in the Knife Makers Market areas (if the maker/craftsman requests and welcomes feedback)
6.Malicious Buyers will be permanently banned from the forums. Repeatedly flaking on deals and buying items only to turn around and complain is also not a good idea. Don't waste our time.
7.If you must back out of a deal, it is YOUR responsibility to communicate with the other person WHY you are unable to complete the transaction. Make sure this happens BEFORE any money or items have been exchanged. Problems should be attempted to be resolved between the persons involved, before Feedback threads are started.

Nothing wrong from withdrawing your property from a sales thread, as long as no member wanted to buy it.

I'm not worried about it. I'm not the dishonest one in this equation.

I wasn't implying that you are dishonest, Infi-del; in fact, I side with you on your sentiments regarding danboy's actions. I just feel, that you could have handled the situation better, (regarding what transpired in your sales thread). Sometimes, it's better to be the bigger person, & just let things go.

Been there & done that...but I feel that you should just file this one away, in the "lesson learned" category, & move on. Focus on the knives & just have pity on the fool! :)

Thanks, Steve! That was actually one of the more pleasurable transactions that I have had on BF.

Thanks for the heads up in regards to Infi-del.

First, I did not start this thread so it would seem that someone has the ability to make it look like I did. I had this situation in the rear view until I stumbled upon this thread while looking for a thread I bought a blade from in order to leave feedback for the seller. I made a mistake. I have seen it done many times and had it done to myself as well. I have always chalked it up to impulse and have never harbored enough ill will to attempt to ostracize someone for it. I have even made an offer to buy a knife, had it accepted, then had the seller sell it for a better offer. I told him it was all good, I understand money is money. Given these examples, I didn't feel it was THIS serious. I have conducted myself honestly in all my dealings here and I have had many pleasant buying/selling experiences. If I were dishonest I would have made up some BS like "I didn't get paid" or some other lame excuse. I did not. I told the truth to infan-tile in a pm. I broke a rule that I felt was loosely followed and for that I am sorry. I am however not sorry that I did not give my money to someone who is childish enough to lash out publicly about something relatively silly. Please do not call me dishonest or dishonorable or whatever adjective you prefer. I made a mistake, I was not dishonest. I would have apologized if infan-tile would not have reacted in the way he did in the PM he sent me immediately following my withdraw. There seems to be many here who are quick to pass judgement and cast insults who I suppose have never made a mistake. I don't need life lessons from any of you. If you knew me you would know better than to think otherwise. Those that know me do. If you would like to meet me, we can work that out. If that isn't good enough for anyone, feel free to pm me to hash it out as I will not be returning to this thread and would love an explanation as to why it was started in my name if anyone can give me one.

Yes, mods do move threads like this from sales threads to this forum when a members behavior becomes problematic. You were informed, with a link to this thread, within minutes of it being posted here.

The thread wasn't started in your name. Your post, the first one here was pulled from the sales thread. Usually when I do this I will put a reference link to where was originally moved from. The subsequent posts below yours was moved as well as it has no place in a sale thread.

You both could've handled the situation better especially being that it's public.
