How often do you clean your ceramic stones?

I think so long as the raw BKF product isn't mixed or used directly with some other concentrated cleaner, you'll likely be OK anyway. I doubt a little soap/detergent residue in a sponge would be an issue (I have an 'all-dirty-jobs' Scotch-Brite pad that I've used similarly; I just rinse it out between uses). This is also a good reason to use a little water with it, whenever or however it gets used. Keeps it somewhat dilute, which slows down any reaction that might take place. Personally, I feel a little better and not so nervous about gettting it on my hands, when used with some water. But I still usually wear some disposable/rubber gloves anyway. :D

Good idea with the gloves! Wish I would have thought of that. lol

I guess Barkeepers friend isn't really your friend after all. It's a dangerous little bastard.

I just edited my post above with another tip, BTW. :)

Just saw it. I actually purchased the "liquid" kind. It's pretty gritty still but it comes in a squeeze bottle. You can control how much comes out pretty easily.

Also, I'm not too concerned about etching steel since I'm going to be doing all future cleaning over a basement sink which I think is plastic. My knives won't go anywhere near it. I also marked a big "X" on the sponge--once it was dry--to indicate that it's the sponge for BKF. I think I'm in the clear now! lol

Paint thinner works well for me, so does WD-40. Just spray some on and use a wire brush (toothbrush size) to work it in and wipe it off with a cloth. DM
