How often do you find/recover lost knives??

I have only permanently lost two knife-related things in my lifetime (that I care about enough to remember). One was a red Swiss Army knife that I owned as a kid, maybe around age 10-12 or so. I have no idea what happened to that knife. The other was a original Leatherman PST that I had carried for years, but left on a job site when I was working in another city and never recovered it. It had sentimental value to me since it was a Christmas gift from my father, who passed away 16 years ago this month, so it would be nice to still have that one.

Everything else has been misplaced rather than lost, and eventually recovered. The most recent being a couple of knives I thought I had boxed up during an office move, but could never find. Turned out that I put them into a zipper pocket of a bag (that I have rarely used since that move) so that I wouldn't lose them. So of course they were lost for about 4 months. Found them just a few days ago. Oddly enough, they weren't especially cherished knives, and certainly not very expensive, but them having gone missing for a while bothered me until I found them again.

Not giving up, just saying it's a daunting task as my yard is about 8 acres with lots of trees and landscaping.
I'll certainly keep looking! We have also had about 8" of rain in the past week , so everything has been wet and nasty.

Rarely lose them, maybe only two, a Tasman salt and a BM 940. 1 of them I think I know were it is and I just have to go get it (in my old work PFD still at my former job location) and the other one fell out of my PFD pocket while fixing an outboard and fell into the river under a bridge in Hartford, which is effectively gone but i did mention that if the marine patrol guys were practicing diving that they should look there to find a good knife. At least that way its not gone forever.

I've had two Kershaws that were lost at work in my youth. I'm still convinced someone swiped it from under my nose...

Not knife related, but I did find a hinderer pen today that I thought was lost for over a year

Lost a Buck 112 while goosehunting in a 100+ acre cut stubble corn field. Found it the next year pheasant hunting.--KV

On two hours of sleep and out in the woods, I handed my friend my victorinox alox bantam. I don't remember if he handed it back to me and I dropped it, or pocketed it and forgot about it, but when I got home it was gone.

UPDATE!! Found my much loved Russell K87C/. Amazing, I have walked all over my property, even borrowed a metal detector and walked all over with it. Pretty daunting as I have lots of trees and there are leaves everywhere. This afternoon, went out to my shop and walked around the shop to the back with my wife's dog. We walked a ways and headed back. looked down, probably not 10 feet from the back door and right there in the middle of the grey rock driveway was my knife!! What is strange, I bet I walked over it 3-4 times over the past 2 weeks. I was so convinced that it was out in the yard, I suppose I never looked down. I'm a happy camper today. It survived over 6 inches of rain over the past week, doesn't look any the worse for wear. Just finished cleaning it up and it's looking nice.

Now if I can just find out the correct size wrench to remove the scales I would be even happier.

Glad you found it oakalley!

I only ever lost one, a S&W flipper I took with me on our usual Colorado River getaway. Walking along the river, it was clipped inside my pocket, got back to our room to pull it out..gone.
I retraced my steps with a flashlight but someone must have picked it up. It is a well travelled river walk.
Just glad it wasn't my Protech.

Great find. I would have hated to lose that one too.

Thanks guys. I'm really glad I found it. You can see from the photo, it's definitely been well used, but like a pair of jeans or boots, they get better when they're broke in!
