How often do you get cut badly?

All the threads on getting sliced, stabbed, impaled, etc... pretty regularly. Is that the norm? lol. I get the occasional paper cut, jab from a point, etc... but it is extremely rare for me to get something that causes more than an "ouch" and a drop of blood. I can't imagine getting hurt multiple times bad enough to need medical attention. I think I would pick a new hobby lol.
If I could make a poll I would, but I can't, so I'll just ask. How often do you get cut, and how often is it bad?

I get stitches from a self-inflicted knife wound maybe once every 15 - 20 years. I often get a number of small boo boos, and drew blood twice yesterday for example, but these are small things and just part of being a manly man.

I checked my "kitchen" hatchet for sharpness saturday. I used it a couple weeks ago to prep a pig for a pig roast. Sliced the top of my hand 3 times in a row to see if it was still shaving sharp. The worst part was my wife was standing right there as the 3rd one "bite" a little more and I had to go get a bandage. The axe is still a razor and I fell into the same hole 3 times and my wife got to question whats wrong with me. In short it was a win, win for all involved. :)

I don't get cut too often, because I keep my knifes sharp enough to cut what I need to cut. But when your knife is hair whittling sharp even the slightest mistake is drawing blood.

I think the worst is when you get a jab from the tip, it hurts a lot more.
Be careful out there

Iv a had a bad couple of day......just got a old buchers steel all my knives are sharper than all get out had two injures in the last week That where.....

In some 50 years of carrying and using knives, I have never needed stitches from a knife cut. A band aid once or twice a year is about it.

IMO, if you need stitches all the time from your knives, you are doing it wrong.

I've been handling knives on a regular basis for only a couple of years now. But I've cut myself bad enough to need stitches only once. I was splitting kindling with a khukri and had my left hand where it shouldn't have been so Lesson Learned!

I cut myself once every few weeks most of the time. It happens much more frequently when I'm in the process of sharpening a bunch of stuff up, but I have still never cut myself badly enough to need stitches. There is this one spot on the end of my left thumb that never completely regained its sensitivity to touch though....

I better not say anything to jinx myself.... the last time a similar thread topic popped up I bragged about how I have never been cut and the same night at work I cut off a small tip of my thumb when I closed my strider sng after using it. :thumbdn:

I don't cut myself very often. Since I starting making my knives shaving sharp, I am very careful.

I'll occasionally skim a bit of skin off a knuckle when cooking, usually nothing that warrants a bandaid.

I've managed to moderately stab myself 3 times when finishing my own blades -- twice while sanding, once I walked too close to a blade that was clamped into the vice. The later was merely a bad scratch. Both injuries have lead to different practices.

Now... if I still had a Balisong....

I have never cut myself bad enough for stitches, but I have been cut by other people and it required stitches one or two times.

Small nicks are pretty common, in fact I just had my victorinox bite me when I closed it this morning. I had my hand too far over and when it snapped closed the tip sliced 3/8 long cut in my palm. Nothing more than a drop of blood though.

I've only been badly cut once and that required 10 stitches on the tip of my left ring finger. I never knew blood could squirt that far from a finger O_O boy did I have a mess when I got back from the hospital. It looked like a murder scene in my room. Luckily nothing was stained.

not so much lately, nine months sober

That's awesome man. Just over two years here.

I don't cut myself pretty much ever. Well, one time I hit bone because I was practicing with my balisong and swung it the wrong way. Outside of that never. Don't believe in jinx or knocking on wood so I plan on keeping it this way.

Once fairly badly in the last 20 years; didn't need stitches, but might have been better off with a few for that one. Was being a stupid kid at the time also.

Number one rule that people break is don't cut towards yourself. My step dad borrowed my 10" chef knife and before I could tell him "that's a bad idea" he had a big old cut on his left hand, that whole object in motion stays in motion gets you every time.

Woah, dude! That sounds like it could have been pretty damned serious!

But yeah, when I first got into knives a year ago I cut myself probably 4-5 minor times. Not in a good long while, though. Not since I've kept 'em razor sharp, either.

It's only happened a couple times with a folder and once with a fixed blade in my life. Embarassingly enough though, the last time was in December when I closed a folder on my finger :o
