How often do you take the sebenza apart.

I sent my small sebenza to the spa, but I haven't taken it apart in a few months. For those who use their sebenzas, mnandis or Umuz how often do you take your folders apart? After each use or once a month. I plan to use it on my next fishing trip and I know it will need be taken apart and cleaned. ;)

once every 2 weeks, or after a really dirty hard use day. If your going fishing in salt water I say clean it immediately after your done.

My action seems to tighten every time I open her up, so I don't give it a full cleaning save for but once a month

Depends on how much use it got... if I use it a lot at work, I usually take it apart and clean/lube it once a week... Otherwise, I just do it when it looks/feels like it needs to be cleaned.

only as necessary, sometimes twice in a month, sometimes once every six months (if I can keep them that long)

Damn! You guys take knives apart ALOT. Maybe once every 8-12 months I'll take a knife apart. Never had any problems.

definitely depends on use, but sometimes, just for the fun of it, i'll bring all of my knives out on the table and take them for a cleaning.

Depends on how dirty it has been used (after fishing trip- right away), but for light edc duties, full breakdown once every six/seven months, maybe. Part of a rotation of edc knives, so that may significantly affect the numbers.

When I first got it, I took it apart just about every week. Nowadays I go a couple of months.

I only take my knives apart to clean them when it's needed, there is no specific time frame to that.

I don't have a set schedule. Some sebenzas I have, have never been apart because they are perfect and until I feel they could use some lube, there is no need to. Others I have taken apart more often because they may be older and used more, hence requiring more cleaning......... I have noticed if I wash my large sebenza in the sink and rinse it thoroughly, it seems to stiffen up a little........ If I get a preowned sebenza, I take it apart and clean each and every piece thoroughly with soapy water and wipe then air dry. I then lube it up and put it back together.

Being able to take the sebenza apart and clean like this is one of the things I love about it the most. I have tried to wash and clean lockback knives after hunting and its a real chore. Being to take the knife apart and get to places you cant reach is a plus in my book.

Most of my EDC use is light duty so I only take it down and give it a good cleaning every quarter or so. Now, if I have immersed the knife in water, especially hot or salt water, I'll usually take it down and clean/lube it within 24 hours of exposure. Dusty or sandy environments usually mean little more than a dust off with compressed air unless it begins to feel gritty on opening.

Usually varies, but I try to once a week since I work in a very dusty dirty atmospheres...But if I was working in a realllly bad place I make it my mission to take it apart and clean it up when I get home.

The longest was 3 weeks and it was pretty gummed up when I took it apart.

Nothing better than a freshly cleaned crk action.

I carry mine at work. So after a weeks work there's usually a bunch of saw dust/gunk in and around the pivot. I'm forced to do a take down, clean, and sharpen once or twice a week with the seb. With the Zann it's once every two weeks or so.

I rarely take mine apart. They have to be acting real funny before I feel the need to disassemble and clean.

I use compressed air to rid the pivot area of any build up - that usually does the trick.

So - maybe twice a year.

CRK customer service recommends to clean it when it needs it. They also sugested that if used regularly to clean it about once a year whether it needs it or not. This is primarily to ensure it is well lubed. Of course, don't use anything other than the CRK lube, since that's what the pivot/washer system is designed for.

Nonsense, I and many others have used many different lubrication mediums than the CRK grease with zero problems over literally years.

I only take it apart as really needed, as I've found the tight fit doesn't really allow too much gunk in side around the pivot, overall. I do wash it a fair bit with some soap and a brush, but rarely take it apart.

My EDC Sebenzas get cleaned with a spray solvent, and re-lubed every 1-4 weeks depending on use. Disassembly (while I'm marveling at the fine tolerances), seems to wait until a spray cleaning, does not quite do it. My feeling is that the more finely fitted a tool is, the more that excessive disassembly is less wanted. In reality I disassemble about every 6-9mos. My current EDC is a small Sebe 21 with raindrop damascus, and a Barry H scale. The Reeve grease seems to last pretty long, my 2nd fav lube is "Dri-Slide" a graphite/solvent mix, only a drop or so needed. In either case a blast of "Gunscrubber" does the cleaning trick assembled or apart.

Your milage may vary with use,
Mike B.
