How often do you use the small blade on your SAK?

When I carry a two blade SAK, I almost always pull out the small blade for use unless I specifically need the extra length. I don't know why it works out that way, never really gave it much thought.

I always use the small SAK blade, when possible. I only seem to use the large blade for food prep. Sometimes you just need a longer blade when slicing food.

I almost always use the small blade for tasks , the big guy gets used mainly for food .

The small blade is great for clamshell and blister packaging. You get more control with the smaller blade and the tip is less likely to damage the contents because it doesn't reach in as far.

On my Vic Executive I use the tiny pen blade a lot for precise work, like opening DVD packages, etc. It ends up getting more use than the larger spear-point blade.

I never use the little blade. It's just a redundant piece of steel to me. I'd much prefer a small nail file in that location, like Wenger makes. Or at least a different shaped blade. One of those Vic electircian's blades would be very nice. You'd get a great wire scraper out of the deal, as well as an awesome small sheepsfoot for whittling.

I use to always use the large blade and never even open the small blade, mostly due to not being able to since I bit my nails. Then I stopped doing that I found more and more I used the small blade instead. I use the small blade 90% of the time, or there abouts. Only pull out the large blade if I have reason to, like the small blade would do what I need done. Which is not to much.

I use the small blade about 99% of the time.
If I need a larger blade I usually use whatever locking folder I have on me at the time.
And I ALWAYS have a locking folder on me whenever I'm awake and not in the shower.

There is a small blade on my Huntsman, but I can't remember when I used it. Not that it is not a useful tool, but I'm used to opening the big blade, probably because my other SAK's don't have a small blade.

I only use it to open envelopes and sometimes to cut food if I'm with Sheeples.

When I had a SAK with a small blade I would use it for most tasks. The smaller the blade the easier it slides through the material that you are cutting. There is less drag and you can steer it in tighter curves than a thicker and broader blade. The thin blade is also easier to sharpen to a really acute angle like 10 degrees per side. That also is a big advantage. Now I carry a single-knife blade Adventurer SAK. I miss the small blade so I also carry a keychain knife.

Well in my case a more applicable question is: Do you use the blades on your SAK?

The answer is, only occasionaly, I generally EDC a one hand opening folder or a small fixed blade. So that comes out for most simple cutting jobs. But that meens the SAK blades are always freshly sharp, so come out for detail jobs like trimming loose thread without distorting fabric. Because of that, it's mostly the small blade.

I actually use the small blade more because it's the right size for most urban tasks. The small blade has about the same edge length as a utility knife / box cutter, so it gets used on cardboard boxes, clam packs, DVD wraps, clothing tags, etc. The longer blade is used only on envelopes and food.

When I carry a SAK with two blades, I tend to use the small blade for opening mail / boxes / packages and keep the larger blade sharp and clean for food or emergency use (I always have a large lockblade with me for heavy cutting chores).

I have at least 4 blades on my with my EDC - 2 on the Cybertool and 2 on the LM Wave. When I need to open a box I always use the small blade on the Cybertool - it does get gummy and I need to clean it now and then, but my other 3 blades stay nice and clean. If I only carried one SAK and it only had one blade then I would bother me to use in on opening boxes and making the blade gummy - I like keeping at least one blade clean!

I always exclusively use the small blade for everyday tasks. The large blade is never used unless for emergency/survival situations.

When I had a SAK Pioneer w/c only had the large blade, the reamer was a great substitute for the small blade (for breaking up boxes).

I got my Swiss Champ used, and the pen blade was snapped off at the tip. I ground it into a kind of modified sheepsfoot, and use it all the time. It does sharpen up really well, although, so does the larger spear point blade.:D

I use the small blade at work for all my cutting tasks. Cutting plastic handles off of 5 gallon steel buckets. Trimming sleeves on delivery hoses. It's a great scrapper for removing DOT and ARB stickers from the tanks....hell i guess i use it over the large blade for just about everything except food.

Great minds think alike. I have a inexpensive recruit I use as an EDC. The lil blde is general tasks, and larger for food, etc. I have a larger locking folder or small fb for anything that requires a more substantial blade, etc.

Similar to Bill H, the little blade is kept razor sharp.

I wish I could find a cadet II that has the same tool config and the little blade instead of a nail file/nail cleaner, as this is my second recruit in 15 years to have scales fall off, etc.
The scales are easy to reattach with a little bit of gorilla glue.
My first SAK was a Recruit, its now 20+ years old the scales are very worn but have never detached.
The only SAK i've had that had loose celidor scales was one i got in a lot sale on ebay.
Just a little bit of glue and it was back in service!

I have a Cadet II, good knife.
I was really tempted to buy some regular Cadets when they had them in multiple colors but i really don't like the nailfile.
To me only the fishscaler outranks the nailfile as the least useful sak implement.
Another thing is i wish the scales on the 84mm Aloxs were as thick as their larger brethren.
