I've found this knife a few yeras ago and have no idea, when it was made. After years of laying around I've eventually used it for butchering and skinning some deers and a hog and was verry suprised about the really good edge retention and handling of this knife. And would like to know more about it:

For what I've read it seems to be made between 1972 - 1986, am I right?

And I would really like to know the steel it was made of: 440 C or 425M or soemthing else?

Last not least: What stands the "110C" for stamped at the blade and what is the difference between "110C" and 110?

Thanks for your help in advance

The "C" on the blade is the date code, it denotes that your knife was made in 1995. Here is the date code chart -

Herman, your steel is the current 420HC.

Excellent steel for your chosen usage.

Good cutting! :)

It says 'Buck Knives Since 1902'. That being 93 years before this model came out. Plus, the frame is of nickle steel and that was not so common. So, yes this model is a
commemorative. But the dates don't add up. John, may know. DM

Must be just commemorating Buck knives in general.

Odd. I guess they've been around, I just don't recall seeing one.

Oh well. There are so many with garish writing splashed across blades.

It would appear to be one of these:

Project# 2168
ECN# 1311
Cat# 2227
Model# 110N4
"Buck Founders - Since 1902"
N/S bolsters
Obeche scales
Electroetched blade

I'm only speculating here. It's the only matching description from that era, but the BO list says they were done in '94.

Don't beat me up if I'm wrong. This is speculation on my part.

Credit for the Photo goes to Stumps, from whom I acquired this knife.

Yes, I saw in the archives where you bought it.

Do you know the back story? Never mind. I see you added via edit.

I wonder if Stumps knows any back story?

And you're probably right. They probably made an error in writing up the special project list, since nothing shows up in any search for "Buck Founders - Since 1902."

It's likely (believe it or not) that this was a build out for SMKW.

More speculation on my part, of course...

Thanks Roger. I was going after my 112 Founders Edition. Then found the 95 catalog that has that photo. I'll keep looking of my 112. Obeeche is a company name for laminate woods. Good research. DM

Actually not a bad speculation. SMKW has a habit of putting a laser etch on the blade of a standard knife and calling it 'special' .... ;)

Just a little correction, obeche (obeeche) is an African tree/wood and Buck uses laminated obeche for handles.

Bert

Bert, is that true? I thought they use laminated and dyed birch?
