i found this at a little local gun shop, it had been sitting in the case for who knows how long... anyone know what generation it is?

the paperwork included is dated 1995

the label on the top has been faded by the sun from sitting in the display for years, the box is pretty rough

when did they stop using AUS-8?

i have to say, i the 4th gen pocket clip seems like a big improvement with all the carry options it gives

Dear yermon,

This is an Endura from 1st generation (molded clip). Early production had G2 (GIN-1) steel and later AUS-8.

Spyderco stopped using AUS-8 on the Endura with the next generation in 1998 - Endura 3 with screwed barrel clip (tip up, left/right) and ATS-55 steel.

Hope you enjoy this good old knife :)

I'd agree with Peter, the AUS-8 steel places it somewhere between '95 and '99. Black box is consistent with that era too. The faded label was put there by the dealer. The Spyderco label is the one on the edge, with the model number, model name, and barcode.

Are you guys sure its first gen. ? My early ones have a narrow molded clip. The wide one like this came next . Or do you consider all molded clips first gen. ?

I have a FRN Endura that I bought back in 1990 or 91. There is NO marking indicating steel type, just Spyderco-Seki City. I assume it is GIN1. It has the narrow molded clip, otherwise identical to Yermom's photo.

I have always heard all molded clips generically refered to as Gen 1, but there were three "variations" if you will. The first ones did not have the steel marked (Gin-1) and had a narrow clip. The second had G-2 marked and had a narrow clip. The third had AUS8 marked and the thick clip as pictured in the original post. I saw a picture once with a thick clip on a G-2 blade but I think the guy got his front to back pics confused because I bought it and the clip was narrow. This is the way I understand it, please correct me if I'm wrong guys.

I bought an Endura (my first proper folder) with similar clip, AUS8, and SpyderEdge in '96. Appears to be same vintage. Still a mighty good tool...now joined by by 4 other Spyderco's, and counting.

Nice. I personally really like those first Gen. molded clips for wearing IWB. I had a Delica i wore this way for a couple years while helping teach a SCUBA class for our pool exercises and all recreational swimming.
