How Rampant is HIKV (ie: how many khuks do you have and how often do you use them)

I have noticed that a lot of the same people keep buying the blems and villagers that Bill posts. As a new (and naive) forumite I am curious about how many khuks a single person could possibly own and how many times a person could use a khuk in a single day. This is your chance to brag and tell stories to impress the new guy. (However if you choose not to admit the true extent of your collection for security reasons I understand.)

If I get HIKV as bad as some of you guys my wife will kill me (something about having to pay rent and buy food).

How many Khuks do we need?None.Theyre large, heavy, sometimes awkward. But youll find that you soon make excuses to HAVE to use one.Thinks you once used a small kitchen knife for now require a 20 inch 2 pound khukuri.

I own 6 from HI,I find something to use each of them for almost every day.Even if its just for having fun.

------------------
I'll gladly pay you Tuesday, for a khukuri today.

I have 5 myself (with 1 on the way) now I sound like an expectant father. Geez. But unfortunately only 2 of them are from HI. I don't get to use mine that often here in suburban Miami, something about road rage and overuse of cellular phones in the cars or something else potentially bad. But when I do I use if for yard work in the neverending battle against the evil coconut trees and the neighbor's rubber tree. 5 years and I STILL haven't gotten all of the roots on that one.

Josh,
Where do you want me to send the flower arangement, cause she's going to kill you!
Cbkc is good for the kitchen. The " others"
i find uses for! You've already joined the club, just don't know it yet!You will find this forum is a " great " bunch,K's don't last long!

Have you ever heard the phrase " Don't Ask, Don't Tell?"

I don't count. If I knew, I'd have to be truthful if my wife asked.

This way I don't have to rely on the 5th amendment. You will also notice the dead silence from the folks who seem to grab the blems and villagers. They are the ones who have started counting the numbers by the dozens - " ...aw, ain't hardly got a couple dozen yet..."

I've only been on this forum about 2 and a half weeks now and I already have one 5 lb. Sirupati and have 1 MS on the way. The use? Uh, she won't let me carry it into Wal Mart, or the grocery store, or....

I've had four of them. A junk india tourist model that I still have(too embarrassed to give it away and afraid to throw it in the landfill!) and three HI models. I've given a 15" Sirupati and BAS away as gifts and retain my 'baby' a 15" shop one AK. I live in an urban area so I don't get much chance to chop with it as I'd like.

I currently have three, an "axe" a "hatchet" and a "machete." They are different types to do different things. Of course, living in an apartment, I don't get to do those things very much, but...

How many can a single person possiby own? How high is up?

If you get the bug, your doomed. But then we all are, so don't worry. the trick is to get your wife addicted

Guys, I'm at 13 if you count the Tarwar. Unlike Jimmie I fully admit having HIKV. I'm not in DENIAL (no not the river in Africa), unlike certain "other" individuals whom I won't mention here! Oops, I guess I kinda did, huh!

I have 16 counting the little kagas katnes(3).
I also have 2 kumar karda's.

I have one in the air headed my way.
There are 2 blades on order and the YvsaFC Dui Chiarra is hopefully getting scanned so a pic can be posted.
I will get 2 of those as mentioned in other posts.

Hopefully some time after the Konvention and upon receiving the new FC models I may start carving a FC Tin Chiarra based on the very beautiful one that John Powell has.

Vince my cuz has made some of mine.
He won't do it for money but has been known to trade once in a Great while. I doubt that he will do much trading anymore because of the same reason he won't sell one. He says that if he starts selling them it will become a job and not fun any longer. I know what he means and I am sure you do as well.

To better answer your question some of he custom makers are making some nice 'hwks although I don't know the costs of them. I believe it's Daniel Winkler that does some of the really, really very, very nice ones!!
Better than that occassionly around here I will run across maybe one or two and sometimes more at the local Gun & Knife Shows.
Then there is/used to be a guy in Missouri that made some nice ones that even included some pipe 'hawks!!
I have seen them run from around $75.00 for a fairly good plain one up to $350.00 fr a really fancy one with the purty maple wood for a handle.
I wouldn't use on like that.
smile.gif

Then you can check crazycrow.com I believe it is and check out hier hand forged models. Crazy Crow Trading Post are good people and stand behind thier goods.
I sent one of thier 'hawks to my Bro Rusty. He can tell you how it is.
smile.gif

If that isn' the right addy let me know and I will e-mail you thier website.

Off that subject and on to Furs and Hides and claws, skulls and other such sundry items Moscow Hide and Fur in Moscow Idaho is a great source for those kinds of things.
I bought a really Wonderful cased winter trapped otter from Oregon there for $140.00 for my otter drag!!!
Great decorative material for khukuris, spears, 'hawks and other goodies.

Get a khuk, any kind of khuk, and if a use isn't already obvious you will make a use for it.

Come to think of it, appreciating and fondling it is more than enough reason. The knife connects you to another culture. It is like being led blindfolded through an asian market. You smell and experience things you never imagined or dreamed could exist.

How much is a state of wonderment worth?

Josh,
4 K's , numerous knives,4 custom Balisongs.If you are a blade person,you "will" become a K person! Don't believe everything that Vince says. Great buddy,but he suffers from HIKV(Bill,can control him,just show him a new K,he has to have it)especially if he thinks i " may"have & interest in it.I'm normal,he's ok,but HIKV'D!You are now part of" Bill's Gang"! jim

Hmmmm ... I only own 3 myself. 15 and 18" sirupati's and 1 katana. I prefer the "light" and "speedy" khukris
smile.gif
. I also own a variety of other blades.

On top of that, I have several friends in the area with an assortment of khukris and other blades of their own.

As for uses, you need a couple good kitchen knives, a box opener, a couple of various woodchoppers, they slice oranges really nice, yard work, wrist excercises of varios weights, they crush and cut empty beer cans really nice too, trimming those pesky strings from clothing, whittling (sp?), hmmm what about shaving ;o. Oh yeah, and they're really fun too
