Obviously you take your chances with any non escrow transactions, but generally speaking, how reliable is the trading forum? Are there many instances of people getting burned?

here at BF we like to hold our members to a higher standard....yes trades have gone bad...and yes they get complicated at times also...but those are few and far between....we have respect for each other and know we all share one very important thing in life...a love for knives...and that is something u dont want to just throw away....

Sketch, if you look at the GBU forum here, you'll see that there are indeed some people that get burnt on trades, but what I've seen in my time here is that the number of "good" transactions greatly outnumbers the bad. Do a search on the person's name in this forum if you're concerned, and see if they have some feedback already.

If all else fails, the guys that get screwed over often have offers of help if they want to visit the screw-er in the middle of the night with a baseball bat. :D

Do a search in G,B,&U for the name of a prospective trader to see what has been said about him/her...

30+ buys, 2 trades here, with no bad deals. All except one buy were for Busses or Swamp Rats.

Anyone who knows me knows that it's best not to screw-around with anyone here at BladeForums, and that goes for trades, sales, or purchases. Most folks here know that if someone ripps-off "one of ours" in a deal from The Exchange Forums, that I go for the throat.

Still, it helps to get a phone number on a trade/purchase so you can call that person you're dealing with to confirm the deal if you feel that you need to. Also, "go with your gut"...If a trade/purchase doesn't "feel right" to you, don't do it.

I've done a couple of simple trades and have had total trust and no problems.
Most people here are sincere about their swaps and are not looking to take unfair advantage, IMHO.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

(just realized I misspelled the thread title, woops, at least no ones flaming me over it) (( Fixed that for you :) ))

What's the typical protocol for trade exchanges? I'm assuming its usually the same way sale exchanges go, with the 'buyer' sending their goods first (would you ship before a check clears?), or allowing them to set up an escrow. Is that how things usually go down, or do most people expect the packages to be shipped simultaneously? The latter doesnt really make sense though, it doesnt give the 'buyer' any extra security, and just adds risk to the transaction.

There should be a "vigilante justice" subforum for the good, bad&ugly, any cheats in my neck of the woods would receive a little persuasion, if you catch my drift.

Something like that must be handled via private email. I've wanted to go pound a couple cheats into the ground like a 2 penny nail into a chunk of wood, but this IS a civil world that we live in.:D.

i ALWAYS ship simultaneously myself, and wont deal with folks who wont, both parties are taking the same amount of risk that way imho, if i dont trust the other party enough to do that i would as soon skip the whole deal.

back when i first started doing trades my late wife could not believe i mailed someone who i didnt know/never met a MO and a knife ($200 and a MT LCC IIRC) and he sent me a crawford ti kasper with nary a problem, it just amazed her how i didnt get ripped off. a few weeks ago i did a swap with a guy from singapore for a emerson custom CQC13 ( a pretty good sum of $$ involved FWIW) and my girlfiend just couldnt believe it either lol, but i have had no problems so far, and have done dozens of swaps/buys with folks on this forum.

You can click on a member's name and check their personal profile. It has a link to their posts. Scan down those for Exchange deals and you may find they've been doing honest business here for a while. I also look at a few of the posts they make in the other forums to get an idea of what kind of knife knut they are.

At the top of the Good, the Bad, the Ugly forum are a few stickies with good information on how to deal successfully.

In my limited experience most people take either US postal service money orders and /or paypal with order being sent after payment has been received.
I have felt totally confident in my trades and purchases here because I know even if some one cheats me it will be the last time he cheats someone on this forum. It is a pretty tight forum for so many members.
