how sharp is the Kershaw Leek?

I have played with everyone that I sold or demo and all of them has fired up nicely. what is there to modify on the leek?? I have not touch a leek to make it work faster than the factory setting.

I am not talking about making it faster. Someone mentioned if the OP didn't like the speedsafe, then they could deassist it. I read a thread on here that if you deassist the leek, it doesn't have enough detent to hold the blade closed for a lot of people. Some mentioned you can modify it to make it work better, but its not as simple as taking out the torsion bar like the blur.

Edit: here is the thread I am referring to..

I could not to get your thread that you are referring to work for me. are you talking about the safety that locks in the blade so when it is closed it stays that way?? I have had a leek since they came out and I never have used the lock that keeps the blade closed and I never had it open in my poket too.

I got an S30V Leek with the G10 scales and it was middling sharp out of the box. I used a Spydeco Sharpmaker to reshape the blade to 30 degrees using the coarse sticks that come with the Sharpmaker and then finished with the fine sticks set at 40 degrees to create a secondary bevel. The knife now bites if you just look at it. Vicious little devil.

I didn't know they could be deassisted. I got a couple of Zing blems from kershawguy that are smooth as silk with an almost magnetic little detente. The blade action is better than my ZT 0561. The blade is Sandvik, as opposed to the new ones made in China that are speedsafed. I've heard the grooved ones rust in the grooves, but these are tantos without grooves. Not sure how tantos would go over in the office environment, but they seem like you'd be able to cut circles in paper on the obtuse point better than you could with a standard blade.

First of all, I don't have a leek and have never used one. So what I am saying is from reading the other thread, not from personal experience.

What I am talking about is disabling the speedsafe feature, as it could be seen as maybe a little "abrasive" to some in an office setting. With the Kershaw Blur, and probably some other knives, you can simply take out the torsion bar and the knife works great as a manual knife.

With the leek, people in the other thread are saying that when you take out the torsion bar (which springs the blade open, as well as helps to hold the blade closed) to make it a manual knife, then it requires some modification to make the blade stay closed.

if you want that then why are you buying at all?? if that is the kind of knife you want and you buy it then the person should keep there mouth shut or buy some other kind of knife that is not a quick opener.

People modify knives all of the time. I don't see why you've become so fixated on this one facet of the thread. There is all kinds of posts on here about people liking the Blur better as a manual knife, so why is it so hard to fathom buying a knife that you like and modifying it so that you like it even more?

because then you are going to want them to warranty the knife when you are the one that change it to your likening. I flick out my leek any time any place. when I am out having dinner with friends I use my leek to cut my steak with and I don’t give a dam who see me doing either.

I haven't been here very long, but have come to realize that the vast majority of folks here understand that modifying your knife voids their warranty. And if they do modify their knife, without researching the implications, then that's their problem not yours.

The OP suggested maybe that the assisted opening isn't ideal for the office setting, and then someone suggested it could be de-assisted, and then I cautioned that it may not be a simple modification. Your, nor my, personal opinions on the speedsafe feature were never sought so let's just let the OP make his own decision.

Also, disassembly and/or removal of the torsion bar from a Kershaw/ZT does not affect the warranty in any way. This is one of the reasons I love KAI.
