How Sharp Should We Have Our Khuks

i as many others would be interested in this.
MY METHOD, dont know if its the right way but it works.
i hold the khuk flat blade facing out from me, then place the chakma flat on the beval keeping it as close to even so it follows the angle allredy on the khuk, then index finger on top to control pressure, rub up an down khuk edge making sure chakma keeps as close to the angle allready there ie slideing flat up and back, doing say 5-6 inches at a time or more whatever feels comfortable, then proceeding up to point till one side of blade done, then turn over and repeat, then inspect edge feel very carfully edge, then quick once over again to first side lighter strokes sort of to polish ,an bingo nice an sharp.
NOW LETS HEAR HOW FERROUS DOES IT. this way worked for me but interested to see if its how others do it. SO OTHERS PLEASE ALSO TELL US HOW YOU USE THE CHAKMA THANKS.
REGARDS GHORKA:) :) :)

Take a file to a belt sander using your bare fingers and a can of water to keep the thing cool. Leave the one side rougher and polish the other on a stone. Don't forget the edges. Put a file handle on temporarily.

You'll say "Now THAT'S a chakma!"

sounds good a nice long chakma.
but it still doesant address the chakMa supplied with the khuks from H.I. IF THEY DONT HARDEN THEM TO WHAT THERE SUPPOSED TO WHY BOTHER,instead why not make an awl and karda instead ???.
and like rusty says make our own chakma from a good file.:) :)

Two kardas. That sounds good. If you want a small sharpener one of those triangular ceramic jobs works pretty good. But if the khuk is very hard the chakma won't do much good.

I use the edge of the chakma, and start flat to the edge, usually doing passes on only the cutting edge to the point of the blade. If I feel an area that grabs the chak, I give a bit mre pressure to the stroke.

I then do the other side the same way, starting flat to the edge, then move the chak to a mre obtuse angle to the edge, for the convex grinds.

Pretty simple, really. Might be easier if I had video of the technique, talking about it hardly supplements the existing info at all. Sorry if this is too vague, Ghork.

Keith = my technique is similar.

Typically, you can tell that the edge is straightened because it offers no resistance to a gentle push. Otherwise, if dulled, moved, or nicked, it resists.

GREAT GUYS THAT helps to clarify it a bit more.as the general technique i was usein was ok.:)
