How should i improve this blade?

First, some background. This was the first knife I ever assembled, I bought the blank from crazy crow (searles bowie) rough ground and heat treated, i had to grind the scale away, grind the bevels (with my HF 1x30), and put a handle on. I liked the hammered look so i pretty much left the flats alone and attempted to grind the bevels (poorly). I was and still am very happy with the handle.

My question is should i try to clean up the bevels and flats on the assembled knife or just leave it? I was thinking i could either try to clean up what's there or do a full flat grind. I do not want to mess up the brass guard as i like it and it's the first time I've made one from bar stock. Any ideas? Or should i leave it as is and chalk it up to a learning experience?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Garrett

I would leave it and keep it as a reminder of what you did for your first one.

I still have the first knife I worked on that Stacy helped me with.

Thanks for the advice guys, I will leave it as is, as I would probably mess up the guard (at the least) if I tried to fix it.

Stacy: I am right handed, but that was the best orientation I could get for the antler piece. You can't really tell from the picture but it also has a subtle curve to it that was awkward to mount. Despite how it looks, it's actually very comfortable in the right hand.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I figured it was because that was the only way it would fit. I prefer to have the butt down and to the left for a right hand knife, but you've got to use what you have as it fits.

Ya, the slight downward curve (towards the sharpened side) felt the most natural but I would have preferred to orient the crown down or to the left. Luckily the piece was long enough (due to the cocobolo spacer) that the crown clears the bottom of my palm so it is still comfortable
