How strong is a Spyderco Endura 4 and Police?

Locks, schmocks; my grandfather carried a slip joint for DECADES and had all his digits when he passed on. I used (and abused) a Buck 110 for decades. I carried Emersons for years but grew tired of their idiosyncrasies.

I use an Al Mar SERE linerlock and have all my digits BUT - when push comes to shove, gimme a TriAD lock. More often than not I have a Cold Steel Recon 1 in my RF pocket.

I have several Enduras. One I carried 8 years, another I carried 10 years daily. One I bought in 92, the other I don't recall but both are still going strong and will be around after I'm gone. If my son, niow 35 and a father then carries them they will last his lifetime as long as he uses them like knives and not pry bars, screwdrivers, cold chisels, whatever.

I got a Cold Steel lawman and it is flat like a Spyderco. How strong is the lock on a Spyderco Endura or Police? The Spyderco feels flimsy compared to the Cold Steel. I'm tempted to sell my Spyderco Police for a Recon 1 and my Endura for more layman's.

I carry the Spyderco when I workout bc it doesn't bounce around much in my pocket. It also has never rusted from sweat. Will Cold Steel be as rust resistant?
Secretly LT sleeps with a Endura and Police under his pillow. Just in case you know.

🤯😒😏🤪

Absolute best lock for "hard use" folders ...that I know of .

I'll assume you are joking ?
Meant it as a tongue in cheek comment, my friend. Been rotating the Rajah 3, Recon 1, and AK-47 the past few days. The hard use aspect is nice to have while not necessarily being mandatory for average EDC use. And that’s why I like pre-GSM era Cold Steel.

Back on topic though, the Endura 4 is a fantastic knife (never owned the Police knife sadly). It’s a solid contender in the ‘only folding knife you really need’ conversation. Sad that blade length and the robust lock may make it illegal in some areas.

A Spyderco Endura 4 is on the List (of knives to purchase in the future), but I've used my Police 4 (K390) to clear brush and prune small tree branches without any concern. At a certain point though, as others have mentioned, the correct answer for hard use is always going to be a fixed blade.

My 2 cents.

Both are good locks.

For me, the argument to strongest lock is mute as my Ultimate Hunter is a pure cutter at this stage as per above.

All my knives have been reground at this stage to improve cutting performance.
