How the $20 KaBar Dozier folder ruined other FRN knives

I had a Winchester fixed blade for the longest time and it was great, even though it was in 420 and pretty soft and it only cost 10 bucks. It was definately worth the money and a hell of a beater, but since I've upgraded I agree with Dijos; I can't bring myself to buy an opinel or something along those lines because it won't give me an excuse to keep upgrading to a better blade. If I get, say the Dozier in this case, and it turns out to be a wonderful knife, then I don't have an excuse to buy anything else like a BM or a CRKT. I'll stay in the dark about the really good, inexpensive knives, thank YOU. :D

I don't find serrations or improvement in steel anough to justify the greater cost, if I'm want to spend more, then why not just get the Ritter mini grip?

Because, for half the price you can get an S30 Native ;)

It doesn't work in reverse for me.

The Ritter grip has enough improvement over the Native, it's worth the extra $60 or so.

But then if I don't want to spend that much the Kabar dozier is the way to go.

That's my point, those two knives rationally wipe out the entire choice set of midrange knives between 0 and $100. (With maybe just a very small number of specific exceptions.)

If I was a manufacturer, which I'm not, I'd either price my knives at $20, or add features like PB washers, premium steel, and real egos to match the $100 Ritter grip.

It sounds like that is true, for you. For me, the Native is head and shoulders above the Dozier (better ergos, eye candy, way better steel), while the Ritter grip isn't much more of a knife than the Native (the adjustable pivot is a plus, the ergos are a minus: for me), so it doesn't justify a price that is double that of a Native.

That's what's so great about all the choice: you get yours and I get mine.

Thom,
I agree 100% with your last post.
Only I think the Native III with VG-10 is even better.

Good luck,
Allen.
