i lent my buddy my mora 2000 and apparently he must have tried batoning with it because the tip of it is bent slightly. Im amazed. any suggestions on what to do other than get a new one. its kinda of funny actually, but i dont want to snap the tip off trying to straighten it.

atleast if you snap the tip off..........you'll have a screwdriver too

good luck

I have a grinder and lowered the tip on my M2000. You might be able to do the same with a file. I've never been able to straighten a bent tip. Grinding/filing it out might be the only solution. For the record--The tip of my M2000 was not bent. I lowered it because I wanted to. (Batoning shouldn't harm the tip--unless your friend was driving in like a nail.)

I have no suggestions other than have your buddy replace the knife. "You break it, you buy it" motto. Another reason not to lend my stuff to anyone. I have a hard time even letting someone I'm camping with use one of my knives.

simply file away the bent metal, you could try bending it back, if the tip snaps it's just that much less steel to file through!

a dremel might work well for the first bit of steel removal as well as a sander, just cool the blade often.

I've used concrete as a giant coarse whetstone as well when there's a lot of removal to be done, saves the files a bit of work and cinderblocks can be had for free :D

maybe he bent the tip by hitting the tip at an angle when batoning.
and Im with rockywolf on this one.
your friend should give you another one and he can keep the one he damaged.

Yep, it's almost like asking to use another man's toothbrush...

We really do have some similar thoughts. Never touch my knife, my woman, or my plate!! :D

Never touch a woman with a knife, who's sitting on a plate?

I never lend out tools.... i tell folks its safer that way..... less chance of me beating them with their own shoes.

Did you ask him how he bent it? I am assuming no but hate to assume anything.

If he is trustworthy (meaning you will trust his answer), and he wasn't really doing anything to warrant the bend, maybe they should replace it. On the other hand, maybe he should like others suggested? In any case sorry to hear that, and he should at least offer to replace it. I could not imagine someone not doing so. I would insist on getting you a new one. (but thats just the way I was raised I guess)

"it sucks when you break a knife, but it really sucks when someone else breaks your knife"...sig line?

okay, I have a couple knives i keep specifically as loaners- I get them on sale at Big5 for under $5 once in a while. a couple "schrade" lockbacks I picked up for $3 each and some sort of ludicrous Jeep fixed blade.

What do you do now? I dunno, regrind the blade and chalk it up to experience? Be glad it didn't shatter?

yeh hes a good guy. he said he was "gently" batoning some firewood. He did offer to buy me a new one but i told him not to worry about it. I am sure hell make it up to me here is a picture. as you can see the knife is no longer straight and ture. it sucks that the wood around here is so dam hard.

I thought that was why we had Moras; to loan out...;)

Well at least it was an under $50 knife.

And now it is your loaner :thumbup:knife. :thumbdn:

say la vie

From the pics, it looks like the bend is a couple inches back, and not just the tip. If so, the only fix is probably a new knife.

Ouch, that looks like a heck of a bend.

I'd put it in a vice and gingerly try to bend out the bend.

Good luck
