  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

how the hell

Be aware that once metal is bent and bent back, it's permanently weak. No getting around it. You can use it until it breaks, but always be aware that if it's used hard, it WILL break. Make sure you position yourself to anticipate this so you don't get hurt.

I recently saw the PBS show on Japanese swords, and one of the commentators was talking about how bending metal changes its physical structure at the molecular level. He made his point by taking a coil of copper tubing and straightening it. He then tried to bend it back to a coil, and it would not move as easily. The bending changed the structure of the metal and made it more brittle.

I have seen the tips of knives bent when ignorant people throw or stick them in logs the jerk them out to the side instead of straight out. Tap out with a hard plastic mallet, or try putting it in a leather padded vice and gently pull on the blade a little at a time. If it breaks, regrind.

Never touch a woman with a knife, who's sitting on a plate?

I never lend out tools.... i tell folks its safer that way..... less chance of me beating them with their own shoes.

You might consider having this rule with your pants too.. :D

I thought that was why we had Moras; to loan out...;)

That was my thought to,thou recently I have taken to loaning out my Blackjack Grunt simply because it takes a beating so much better then my Moras. Got a bunch of Gerber Profiles, Smith and Wesson Bullseye fixed and a few folders to hand out. Once in a while I get someone that asks to borrow my Gossman Kephart or Mini Tusker... I just stare at them until they retreat.. :)

I have no idea how you'd fix that Mora. Me? I'd replace it and keep the first one for your next "gentle" user friend.

When I started collecting knives, I could see this problem coming up. So I bought 12 Moras ($10 kind, Craftsman and so, not 2000) to give away if needed. For my friends, who would appreciate, them I gave them good knives. Knives I would carry, but they are their knives, not mine.
I learned the hard way with guns. We were trying to "save" a nephew by taking him on a hunting trip. No one figured out he did not have a gun. I ended up loaning him a fairly nice custom 98. When he brought it back he did not clean (or even dry it). I finally got the rust off of it, but he wont borrow it again. We later gave himn his own 870. I bet it has never been cleaned.
