How the Paramilitary 2 ruined me and how you can help.

Edit: If you don't wanna read through the massive paragraph below I'll sum it up for you. I've fallen deeply in love with my pm2 and it's ruined other knives for me and I don't know what do do :( I'm hoping for some recommendations towards a folder that I'll love just as much. Thanks

I'm not by any means a believer in myopia, especially in the knife world. I just leaves so little room for discovery and experimentation to declare a single model or brand the end all best. The great search of the knife addict, that quest for the perfect knife that doesn't exist, it's what makes the experience so goddamn fun. But then came the paramilitary 2. My smooth, reasonably priced, s30v steeled slicing machine. Its curves, its thin tip and blade , it just fits everything I personally want in a knife. Every time I try to go out in pursuit of that next knife to add the collection, the image of my beloved PM2 dances in my head. I know for a fact it's not the best knife of all time, I know there are other blades out there that I'd love just as much, I just need some help! So recommend me a folder! Recommend me a knife that you've given your heart and soul to, break my monogamous relationship with my PM2. (My only parameter is an under $200 price point.)

Many thanks gentlemen, have a good one.

Might try a new FFG Manix 2. At first the lock took some getting used to, but I love the knife. So much so, she got Putnam scales for christmas.

Oh, and also while a bit on the beefier side, I am loving my ZT 0550 as well. Lots of pocket time for that lady.

Good luck, pm2 is my favorite now as well.. I do love my bm mini barrage as well.. they're overpriced but I had to have a BM as I love American made products.. the pm2 is also what makes me want more spydercos over others

Somewhere on blade forum is a thread called the search for "THE" knife. Sounds like like you've found yours.

The Spyderco Military did the same thing for me! Except it was the first one-hand opening folder I bought!? Every other knife afterwards ended up collecting dust! And now I have four different Millies :D Am EDC'ing since 2008.

Just accept it and love it! And keep trying - and selling ;)

Oh yeah, totally forgot to give you a recommendation. If not a Spyderco Military then a Hogue EX-01 perhaps?

Rough Rider Canoe Armor Hide, a cheap $10 knife in 440a is my favorite. My biggest gripe, it doesn't have the edge retention I want in higher end steels despite not needing it. Hopefully a Case Canoe that will one day find it's way into my collection will knock it out of it's place. It has beaten out far more higher end knives in becoming my favorite.

My advice learn to live with it, focus on your sharpening skill if you haven't perfected it yet. You mind as well learn to bring out every last bit of performance out of that knife. That's what I am doing now.

Im in the same boat. Unfortunately this is the case that you have to live with at least until you get over a hump.

I have a rr armor hide mini Barlow that I adore. $9 shipped. I wish they made one in D2 or 1095 even. But size wise and tactile feel its the little knife that I always have on me. Generally its this 2 and 3/4” closed pen blade type knife that does it for me.

In my bag is a mt and a ukpk which I love. I had sold a sage 2 as it just didn't do it for me the way the ukpk/caly/calypso Jr shaped handles do. It is what it is. I thought I would love the sage based on its good looks but as soon as I put it in my hand I knew it wasn't right.

I looked for quite some time to find another folder at reasonable prices. Now It comes down to either wanting a custom traditional at this point, William henry carbon fiber, or Chris reeve which I probably wouldn't edc as I didn't edc any of the Ti frame locks that I have ever owned. I ended up supporting a local knife maker in the southeast and bought one of his cool little scalpel fixed blades, micarta handle for the price of a regular folder.

Does anyone make custom scales for a pm2? ***edit I was on cuscadi's website and they have several nice offerings for the pm2!

Go a different direction and have something to pair the Para2 with. Maybe a Queen slipjoint for when you're in areas where the PM2 might attract more attention than you need, or a Benchmade Adamas so you have one knife to cut and one to pry the covers off manholes. Or if you really want a change of direction, go buy a nice kitchen knife. The super high end kitchen stuff would be wasted on me, but having some Richmond knives in the kitchen has completely changed my outlook on cooking.

Break free from the shackles of your $200 limitation and look at something like a William Henry E10 or Chris Reeves Sebenza. You'll then view your PM2 as a beater and be spoiled to the new knife. :D

Jus' saying.

My opinion as well. I felt the same way about the 0550, which is something you should try if you haven't already.

But I went way above my normal price point to get the small sebenza Insingo w carbon fiber inlays....it wowed me. Enough that a large Sebenza 21 will be arriving this week :)

You own a perfect folder. Enjoy it.
I will recommend a Black Bear Knives folder. These are custom folders but the price is exceptional.
