How the Paramilitary 2 ruined me and how you can help.

... Recommend me a knife that you've given your heart and soul to, break my monogamous relationship with my PM2. (My only parameter is an under $200 price point.)

Many thanks gentlemen, have a good one.

Benchmade 940 sounds like the ticket.

Length
PM2: 8.28"
940: 7.87"

Blade length
PM2: 3.4"
940: 3.4"

Blade material:
Both in S30V

Handle thickness
PM2: .46"
940: .41"

Handle length
PM2: 4.8"
940: 4.4"

Handle material
PM2: G10
940: Aluminum

Weight
PM2: 3.75 oz
940: 2.90 oz

Lock
PM2: Compression
940: Axis

The Benchmade is everything the PM2 is, but lighter, slimmer, and more pocket friendly in my opinion. I've had both, and much prefer the BM over the Spydie.

Try out something from the ZT Line, I have a ZT0350 which is compared to the PM2 very often and its an amazingly well built knife.

+1 I agree completly!

I don't personally like the PM2, not enough blade for the handle length. I would suggest a Gayle Bradley (my favorite spyderco) or a Southard.
[Flame suit on, I said I didn't like the PM2]

You can pick up a used GB for ~$100, you will not find more value:dollar in a knife anywhere else, the CPM-M4 super steel, CF handles, very hard use capable and first class fit&finish. It is one of the best hard use production knives out, you need one.

The CTS-204P on the southard is a great stainless steel as well and it doesn't really loose to the GB or anything, it's just that the GB is a better buy, like I said; "You need one!"

I am in the same boat. Each time I get a new knife it just doesn't compare to the PM. I have a SOG Zoom on the way (Not really in the same category) but my next knife I will try the Gayle Bradley.

I think definitively though, this is part of the greater discussion that stems from this thread. So here we have a PM2 which is practice a perfect knife for so many people. And then as knife nutty's we fall into this conundrum of exotic materials like Carbon Fiber and Titanium.

BUT in practice, and I'm 1000% guilty of this the exotic material doesn't always translate to a better knife. I have had two $100+ Ti Framelocks at this point and neither of them worked out for me as an EDC. I would like to try out carbon fiber just because its pricier. But am I getting a better knife that I would EDC or just a fancy piece of man jewelry? I'm not disparaging CF or Ti btw or people who want these materials. It's just a question that I ask myself. I.E. G10 and FRN work really well for me as handle material. Are they pedestrian by some people standards, very much so, can I live with having a pedestrian knife? Maybe, maybe not. Lol.

I'm settling into the fact that maybe for me - knives might be just knives and I have to separate my EDC from my normally ...abnormal knife nut inclinations like my personal love of exotic materials and wanting to buy more and more expensive knives. It even got to the point where my wife who doesn't like my knife hobby, offered to buy me a Sebenza because she got sick of me looking at them online.

I haven't in my own head come to terms with these two contradicting ideas though. SO I try to be a little more selective in my buying choices. I wish I had a knife store near me where I could fondle some knives like a Berger custom or a Southard vs having to buy it straight up in order to try it out.

There's lots of others to try. PM2 in camo... PM2 in brown... PM2 in green... PM2 in orange... PM2 in blue... PM2 in CF... :D

Please, for the love of god!.... Tell us you let her buy it for you!!!!!

You got perfect knife? Good, now use your money for something else or save it until you HAVE TO get something. :)

I said no! Then two weeks later changed my mind and she said too late! Lmao.

We had wanted a bird for quite some time and in between that time we spent $$$$.00 on an Amazon parrot and a giant Caitec custom cage for him! Don't regret it though, there will be other opportunities to pick up knives! The parrot has been really fun! Gotta draw a line somewhere at how your expendable cash is spent. Knives aren't always on top of the food chain!

Maybe one of these could do it for you... :)

I am carrying a Para2 today and I really like it, but it isn't my favorite. In that photo you will see a BM 581 and BM 913, those I think I like more than the Para2. Manix 2, Military, Gayle Bradley are really close to the Para2 also.

Perfectly happy with my PM2 and I will use until it can't be used anymore. Paid $106 which is exactly what I was willing to spend on a knife and it's perfect for my hand.

I was in the same boat not long ago, the next step for me was the Sebenza. Now I never pick up my PM2s anymore, but not sure where I can go from here. More CRKs I guess

I love my PM2's too, but I like to change it up now and then and carry traditional knives (GEC, mainly) - both my PM2's and my GEC's are equally awesome, but for completely different reasons, of course. And I like the variety, but that's me.

That is exactly how i was with my pm2, until i bought a manix 2 lightweight. Both so evenly matched my 2 favorite knives ive owned so far.
