The Benchmade is everything the PM2 is, but lighter, slimmer, and more pocket friendly in my opinion. I've had both, and much prefer the BM over the Spydie.
I don't personally like the PM2, not enough blade for the handle length. I would suggest a Gayle Bradley (my favorite spyderco) or a Southard.
[Flame suit on, I said I didn't like the PM2]
You can pick up a used GB for ~$100, you will not find more value:dollar in a knife anywhere else, the CPM-M4 super steel, CF handles, very hard use capable and first class fit&finish. It is one of the best hard use production knives out, you need one.
The CTS-204P on the southard is a great stainless steel as well and it doesn't really loose to the GB or anything, it's just that the GB is a better buy, like I said; you need one
I think definitively though, this is part of the greater discussion that stems from this thread. So here we have a PM2 which is practice a perfect knife for so many people. And then as knife nutty's we fall into this conundrum of exotic materials like Carbon Fiber and Titanium.
BUT in practice, and I'm 1000% guilty of this the exotic material doesn't always translate to a better knife. I have had two $100+ Ti Framelocks at this point and neither of them worked out for me as an EDC. I would like to try out carbon fiber just because its pricier. But am I getting a better knife that I would EDC or just a fancy piece of man jewelry? I'm not disparaging CF or Ti btw or people who want these materials. It's just a question that I ask myself. I.E. G10 and FRN work really well for me as handle material. Are they pedestrian by some people standards, very much so, can I live with having a pedestrian knife? Maybe, maybe not. Lol.
I'm settling into the fact that maybe for me - knives might be just knives and I have to separate my EDC from my normally ...abnormal knife nut inclinations like my personal love of exotic materials and wanting to buy more and more expensive knives. It even got to the point where my wife who doesn't like my knife hobby, offered to buy me a Sebenza because she got sick of me looking at them online.
I haven't in my own head come to terms with these two contradicting ideas though. SO I try to be a little more selective in my buying choices. I wish I had a knife store near me where I could fondle some knives like a Berger custom or a Southard vs having to buy it straight up in order to try it out.
Please, for the love of god!.... Tell us you let her buy it for you!!!!!
