So I decided to further customize my bk-7. I wanted to add a choil to it for some of the finer more precise tasks. Here is a write up and picture thread of how I did it.

First I remove the scales from it.

Next I decided how deep I wanted the choil as well as the placement.

Marked my cut line with a pencil.

I cut some scrap leather to hold the blade, protect the edge and my hands.

I set it up on a 2x4 mounted so I could work with it. Then I clamped the knife in place, with the cut line exposed.

This is what I used to make the cut.

I started grinding. I sprayed the blade every couple seconds to keep the blade cool.

I took it very slow, took my time and here it is finished with the dremel.

I then just did some minor sanding by hand ending at 600 grit. Just to smooth the corners and edges. I lubed it up with my lube of choice.

Here is a couple all finished up.

Hope this helps someone. I was nervous to try this. Turned out very nice, and wasn't a big deal at all. Any questions or anything just ask.

nice job. thanks for sharing.. your thread makes me think even i may be able to pull it off

Tman you can absolutely. Just take your time and don't rush. It was super easy, just make sure you have the knife clamped down good so you don't have to worry about it moving. Spray the blade to keep it from getting hot and your golden. Really nothing to it.

Stop it. Please. I'm feeling the irresistible urge to buy another BK9 and do some custom work on it, like adding a coil, removing the thumb ramp, sharpening the clip point, and stripping everything but under the handles.

I just got my BK7 and I absolutely love it. If someone told me it would look this different in just weeks, I would have said your crazy. There no way I am taking a soldering iron to the grips, stripping the paint from the blade, and taking a dremel to the blade. But here we are, the more I customize it the more I love it. I loved the knife right out of the box, but there are many like it. Now I can say my knife is 1 of a kind. Ethan did an amazing job designing the Becker line, cant say I am improving his design, but I am making it mine. I am sure Ethan feels a connection to each and everyone of these knives, I now have a connection to mine.

I used a similar method with excellent results.

1. Drink
2. Drink
3. Grab Dremel and eyeball BK-7
4. Drink
5. Grind a little
6. Check how it feels in hand
7. Drink
8. Repeat steps 4-7 until complete

The 7 is a great knife. I still think it's one of my favorites. (although I think the 12 is eeking it's way in........or the machax.....or the 15......or the 11)

Excellent tutorial! I applaud your attention to detail and safety.

Steps 3, 5 and 6 will work. I cannot recommend the other steps. ;)

Fantastic job OP. I have a dremel and love to tinker so threads like this are either good or bad for me to look at depending on the outcome. Your write up does make it seem rather simple.

Side note, good job on the stippling. I also love to stipple. Once I held a stippled grip, there was no turning back. I stippled just about everything I own.

Thanks. Actually may have went a little over board on the safety lol. Got weird looks from the neighbors because I did it in the garage doors open, had on my shooting/safety glasses and a respirator. Better safe than sorry. Lol

Thanks man. It's much more intimidating than it is. The grip was my first attempt at stippling too. I love the way it feels. Stippling is kind of addicting. If you love it you will want to stipple everything you own. Lol. If you give it a try post some pics. I always love seeing others work.

That's strange.....I was actually going to recommend steps 1, 2, 4 and 7 and leave out the rest.

Great job KRAZY.....looks awesome.
