How to avoid baggage handler stealing?

I have a couple of knives designated as my "traveling knives". The reason?... I can lock them to the frame of my bag. I carry one of two Spydercos, a SAK with that little ring on it, and the BK&T BK-11 (aka Becker necker) All of these knives have something I can pass a trigger lock through and secure to the frame of my bag. Most wheeled bags have some sort of metal frame to it, and you can usually find some place on the inside where you can do this. This isn't fool proof obviously, but I think would deter the average TSA scumbag.

+1 on shipping them insured. That's the only way to go.

I travel with a cheap CRKT I bought for $10. Decent knife actually, but if it goes missing, I won't be crying all the way home.

Where are you talking about? could you be more specific? thanks.

He gets a cable lock, passes it through some part of the knife frame, and attaches the lock to some part of his luggage's frame. Therefore TSA can search the suitcase, but can't unlock the knives from the suitcase.

The TSA has some heavy-duty cutting implements to deal with locks and such. Still, locking your knives in this manner sounds like a good idea because it makes it harder and more time-consuming for a thief, increasing their chances of getting caught.

If they're worth enough, why don't you ship them home by UPS or USPS. They don't even have to be identified as knives to either, so there would be little chance for theft.
Got it in one-:)

Shipping them for me is a little hard because the places around here to ship them are on campus and im not supposed to have knives as it is...would be the last thing i would want to do is get caught with all of them.

Give me a break! When was the last time you took a package to either UPS or USPS and someone asked you what was in it? I mail a lot of packages and nobody's EVER asked me what I was shipping. Don't want to do that, then take your chances with TSA and hope for the best.

Just do what I do. If you really value your knives, call Bladeart.com, they have mini Pelican cases, that are perfect for folders. They can be locked. You can just lock your knife inside your suitcase. I have never lost a folder this way. I am pretty sure they make cases for fixed blades too.

1.Fedex.
2.Welder bud of mine going caribou hunting after inspection pulls out a small pocket torch...and seals his rifle case.(he already sent another pocket torch to the lodge to get his guns out)needless to say "Lakecia with TSA" was not amused, but like all things she got over it.maybe not an option for you,but his $1200.00 rifle and scope made it to Canada untampered with.
