I am wanting to make some spoon knives from O-1 and I use an evenheat kiln. I currently use o-1 for slipjoints and have lots hanging around. I'm a stock removal guy so my experience with hitting hot metal with a hammer is nil. As O-1 is very forgiving for re-heating, i'm thinking I will grind the bevel and then heat with a torch to bend and then do heat treating as normal. Is this right? Can somebody tell me the right way to do this using an electric kiln?

Yes, heat it with a torch to bend it where you need it.

A spoon knife is (usually) chisel ground on one side (the outer face, not inner). There is also a drop just after the handle/blade junction to center the curve and even out torsional forces while carving. Of course, there are other designs made, but the most ergonomic look similar to these...

Then there are crook knives, which are very handy(my favorite). They are beveled on the inside of the curve and can be used like a spoon or draw knife...
