How to break in a Vanson leather jacket?

This is really appealing, but I probably won't do it. Probably won't. Are you serious ddean?

Serious as a little pig poopin in the moonlight after eating peaches, seeds and all.;) :D
Tennis shoes are a good alternative to baseballs but both are noisier than h e double ell.
This is what Tandy does to make their butter soft Buck Tanned leather from cowhide. It even stays soft after being wet! :D Although it does discolor a bit.
The Buck Tanned leather has no oil on it of any kind AFAIK.

Still stiff as armor. Will easily stand in a corner. Hey, gonna try your idea with the clothes dryer and no heat.

Do you think the ballistoil is a good idea?

Or just the jacket by itself, w/o the baseballs?

Wife is more concerned the baseballs will hurt her dryer.

Really like the jacket, but the only place it is comfortable is walking or riding the bike.

ddean, thanks for the reminder about breaking it in. Just wearing it would take forever! Still as stiff as when I got it.

if wife is concerned about dryer damage, wear jacket & have wife throw baseballs at you until it is soft. wear goggles. ;)

remind her that when she is done, it's your turn to soften her jacket. :D

Hmmmm (considering)

instead of baseballs in the cloths dryer-i used sneakers,my carhart gets real stiff when its dried unless i throw a sneaker or 2 in

Anne says that if any of you want to try on one of our jackets and let her throw baseballs at ya she is up for that.

Bill,

I don't think Vanson jackets break in.

My Highwayman is 12 years old and still very stiff.

It has broken in a little at the elbow joints, but that's about it.

Enjoy the stiffness; I do.

I know I have the best protection and warmth.

IMO, the leather is just too thick to break in. :)

How about that weight.

Enjoy the stiffness

Was going to be Vanson's advertising slogan....

but they reconsidered the idea.

I think it would take a lot of dryer time with shoes/balls/rocks to soften the heavy leather they use...what is it? 8-9 oz or 12-13? The stuff of shields for warriors.

Wacherass, hear?

I just Googled "How to soften Vanson Leather Jackets?" and kept running across this recommendation.....
"The best product I have ever found for softening leather equip is Vanson Leather Balm."

I'm still betting that the Tandy's Carnuba Cream would work wonders. It has amazed me at how well it softens leather!!!!

Remember where I said that I was willing to break in your jacket for you?

Yeah...offer withdrawn. I bruise easily.

Seriously though, nice jacket. I was taking a look at the Vanson website this morning. If I had a bike (and a job), that's what I'd be wearing. Pretty cool.

the vanson store is a nice ride from here :) good stuff, but i can't for the life of me figure on what i'd want to wear from them. just sold my leather two piece motorcross suit actually.

i'm more of a textile garment kinda guy. ballistic nylon, armor, goretex, zip in liners, and good comfort. brand i like a lot is CyCloak (http://www.motomkt.com/tcycloakgtpro.html). there's also aerostich.com which makes a quality product, and sells a lot of good accessories.

ride on,

bladite

Vanson recommends thier Leather Balm.
Be careful that the product you use wont damage or rot the thread as well as the hide.
I had a Pro-Perf Sport Rider, which I sold after I sold my YZF 600.
I still own a Swedish courier jkt., no longer in the catalog.
I have had that one about 12 yrs now. It has softened over time,
but is still firm enough not to collapse or ripple in a slide.
Remember, differential cut motorcycle jackets make lousy fashion wear.
When you sit, not on a bike, they tend to go turtle shell on ya.

I am totally convinced Vanson is one of the best leathers makers in the US, and THE BEST on the east coast.

A sport rider saved my buddy's arm in a nasty crash, according to the docs,
and several roadracers I know/knew have gone for a slide in em.
Vanson's repair shop is awesome, should the worst occur.

DaddyDett

P.S. Yeah, I sold motorcycle parts and accessories for about 10 yrs., mostly in Va and upstate NY.
