how to bring a knife to a gunfight

This is a Russian ballist knife, no? If you had this type of weapon, and your advisary didn't know what you had it could be interesting.
 
You can see the blade rotate 90 degrees the instant it leaves the handle in that clip.
 
I remember being really pissed off when they banned the Russian balistic knives before I bought one. For such a simplistic mechanical design they had ridiculous penetration.
 
I bought one back in the 80's and still have it. It actually was well made and worked pretty well. I definitely would not want to have it used against me. I doubt that it would be practical to aim for anything beyond center-mass. It would not be useful against a gun, since the gunman would have plenty of time to shoot you before bleeding out. It did not look anything like the the video clip--it was black and larger than that. it had aluminum cap over the blade that had to be removed before firing it. Otherwise, if it accidentally fired during carry, it would likely put quite a hole in your leg. I don't know what the blade steel was, but it seemed to be well-chosen. It took a lot of abuse with no hint of damage--I had figured that the tip would bend.

The notch that engaged the release to fire it was made of aluminum, and wore at a fast rate, but it could be disassembled and easily replaced. I still have it sitting in storage somewhere. Can't really sell it because I think it was federally banned. I took out the spring to avoid being in possession of such a hellishly illegal device.

It is a OTF with the blade stop removed. I did it to one myself. a Cheapo NATO otf I got from soldier of fortune magazine when I was a kid. It works great. Sticks into wood, but I doubt it would penetrate deep enough to cause serious damage. Just a little fun to pass the time, and a neat little party trick. I guess if you replaced the spring with a extremely strong one it could do damage, but you'd still get shot. just a minor distraction. BUT, those Soviet made "real" Ballistic knives are super powerful. It's just a novelty like throwing stars and cheapo autos.
